Default 88-89/90-91 Dash differences

Besides the obvious random button/switch differences. Is there a size difference? Or over all shape difference?

The reason im asking is because my 90-91 needs a dash, and the one i have access to (its for free and in good shape) is from an 88-89. Help is appreciated.

I cant remember which button is diferent on the 88-90 than on the 90-91, but its on the left side of the center air vent. I need it to match up with the steering column cover also.

cluster covers are different so those might need to be swapped out, im not sure if you can use your 90-91 style cover on your new 88-89 dash. i know the dash harnesses are different as well, buy you can get away with swapping yours into the new dash. aside from the cluster cover you should be ok.

I'll just use the 88-89 cluster cover. I've put a hatch dash into a sedan before and i used my sedan wire harness so i know what you mean regarding that.

Can't swap cluster covers on the sedan dashes, so you will need to use the 88/89 cluster as well as the wiring, and rewire it to wirk properly.

I know you mentioned this to me yesterday, but what pieces are broken? You cant even see in the pic. By the "corner pieces", im thinking of the two removable panels on each side to access the side bolt when you remove the dash from the car. I can care less about those.

It doesnt matter if anything is really "broken", i'll proabably be doing a interior dye depending on if i can find black sedan carpet like my last sedan.

If not, i'll just leave all stock blue, i MIGHT be just gutting this car completely, only leaving a dash, driver/passenger seats, and thats it.

Eric, i think im gonna have to come over there friday evening. Sorry man, but i dont have the time after work the rest of this week to make a trip. If you sell it before then, cool, if not, i'll be there.

Going to turn it into a full project, not going to insure it. Once i get everything in order, i'll be completely stripping everything (in the interior and engine bay), and rebuilding starting with the hissing tranny. So a throwout bearing or input shaft bearing is in order.

I have my engine hoist, so i'll just leave the motor hanging there until i can;

a. Get some quality pistons/rings (block in the car now has 314xxx!!)
b. Find another a6 block, or possibly zc in KNOWN, low(er) miles.

Other than that, the car needs nothing mechanically. I'll be adding sidemarkers of course, and my pin striping eventually.

I WILL NOT BE PAINTING THIS CAR, haha. I'm gonna leave it as is until i find a white hood and trunk.

Here are pics of both my sedans. $900 total. Im not parting out either one, im going to be turning the 88lx into my DD, besides my Jetta. The 91ex is going to be strictly a project.
