Help, please! EF hatch engine lurching
Hey, I have a 1990 Honda Civic with a B18A1 in it. I bought it about 6 months ago and it has never run right...Before I got it it was converted to OBD1 by use of jumper harnesses, but I'm not sure if the injectors and everything else was wired up right...
When it's cold, the idle surges up and down pretty fast.. and it also drives REALLY crappy. It's impossible to maintain a constant speed (below 60 mph) because if I don't have the gas pedal at least 1/4 way down, the whole car lurches really bad. This happens in the lower RPM's (1000-3000 I'm guessing) in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. In 4th and 5th gear, it still lurches but not as violently (probably because 4th/5th don't have as much torque). It does the same exact thing when it's warmed up too, the only difference is that the idle gets a lot lower. When it's warm, the engine also bogs way down in 1st gear.
Anyways, we've checked the distributor, spark plugs/spark plug wires, vaccuum lines, FITV valve, ECU, fuel injectors, and map sensor.
Is there any way to check what engine code(s) the ECU is throwing? My ECU is OBD1 so it doesn't have an LED that blinks when the car is on (but not running). I'm not sure if there are supposed to be any plug-ins in the car itself, or if there are any other ways to read the code(s) the ECU is throwing.
Also, I don't know much about wiring but since a 90 civic is has stock dual point injection, and an integra LS has multi-point, if it was wired wrong could that cause engine surging?
Sorry this is a long post, I just wrote down everything I could think of that could help find an answer, or at least another idea to try. If you have any ideas PLEASE post them. Thank you!

by the ecu you should see a 2 pin connector just chillin there. jump that and it will make the cel on the gauge cluster blink out your codes. the codes might very well be related to the dpfi to mpfi conversion.
We can't get the check engine light to flash at all but the wiring is most likely the problem. The guy who had it before me just spliced everything together. So, to fix this problem, I was thinking of just getting a DX wiring harness and starting over from scratch. I'll probably do this at the same time that my friend rebuilds my engine.
If anyone has other suggestions, that would be awesome. Otherwise, do you think it's a good idea to start over from scratch?

Ok.. Bump.. 3 months later.
The problem's still there. Has anyone else had similar problems with their EF or CRX?
The only similar problems I've been able to find had to do with just idling and is usually fixed by cleaning the FITV.
