Default mild sohc build ???

ok i have a d16z6 and plan of putting in a stage 1 comp tech cam, ycp p29 pistons, arp head studs ,and cometic head gasket. ( if it matters i already full exhaust 2.5" ,short ram intake, and skunk2 pro intake manifold)

now my first question is i found a cometic head gasket that says its made for a d16z6 but its a 75.5mm / .030" thick and i read that the d16z6 is only a 75mm bore will this be a problem or will this work?

also i plan on doing the ycp p29 high compresion pistons but dont plan on making alot of power and read that stock rods can hold up to 300hp should i be all set keeping stock rods ?

-thanks

that's fine. it has been a while but if i recall, the OE gasket bore is somewhat larger than the stock bore to accomodate oversized pistons. for what it's worth, i used to run a 76mm bore apexi 1.5mm gasket on my 75.5mm p29'd y8 (to bring the compression down to a reasonable level).

the rods will be ok as long as they are in good condition to start. some people upgrade the rod bolts to ARP units since the RPM usually increases with tuning and a cam. i never ran anything but OE bolts. i used new OE ones the first time, retorqued them after break-in and through the life of that engine took the caps off a bunch of times and never had an issue with those original OE bolts. could have been luck, i dunno.

if i were you i'd look into the crower stage 2 cam over whatever cam that is you have listed there. first talk to crower, but the info i always got was that cam was ok with stock springs and retainers provided the springs were not like million mile springs.

www.d-series.org is your friend.

could be true now. the dude who designed the original crower stage 2, brian crower, told me back in the day that the redline doesn't necessarily end up being that much higher with that cam, and combined with the other factors of the cam the stock springs/retainers should be just fine. i changed 'em anyway ; )

a lot of it for me had to do with mileage and use on the OE springs. even in a stock car they see IMMENSE abuse tens of thousands of miles.

i'd probably ask crower for their advice but for all i know they might be more into simply selling stuff now rather than being honest, so they might push you to buy whatever no matter what. brian was always honest with me when he was there.
