Just picked up a gsr
Well, since i got rid of my old 94 gsr for my 350z, i've always wanted to get another one. Well, after 5 years I no longer have the 350z. I just picked up another gsr.
It's a 1994 Red gsr. The original motor (i was told) hydrolocked and was removed. It now has a jdm b16a(obd1 motor) with a intake, header, exhaust, ported tb, ported intake to the tb, itr cams( haven't checked for sure yet), 99/00 civic si wheels(soon to be some fat fives) and some 1 piece coilover setup. The body was 199k miles on it. It will need some paint work, but that will be later down the road. I also got a spare ls block with b16 pistons( he started to do a ls vtec) mounted on the ls rods. Has a gsr oil pump and water pump, new timing belt and various other parts.
Car does burn some oil(about a 1qt every 3k miles), smokes during vtec. It still has the stock p72 ecu which is fixing to be chipped with chrome(sp) and tuned for the b16. The ignition map and fuel is way wrong right now, plus vtec is to low at 4500(or so).
My goal is to build the ls with a forged bottom end and dart mid sleeves. I will be setting it up for all motor and putting on shot on it for now. Eventually will throw a vortech on it, so i don't have to remove any parts really. Goal for all motor will be 200-210whp. On the nitrous i will be throwing about a 125 at it. So we will see what those numbers will be. My old gsr took a 100shot on stock internals with no problem. All in the tuning.
I traded a 1990 mustang gt that was almost stock for this car.
Well, glad to be back in another teg. If anyone has any input, please share.

I dont know why you would throw a Vortech SC on it when you could make more power and have a better powerband with a properly matched turbo setup. Since you're already building and sleeving the bottom end (and presumably overboring while using the LS crank), you won't be hurting for torque; ergo, a turbo setup would be your best bet. Too much low end grunt in a FWD chassis and you'll have copious wheelspin while lacking the top end which a turbo setup would give you. Its something to consider before investing a lot of money only to be disappointed.
Low end grunt with a vortech? You do know that is a centrifugal s/c right and not a roots type? It will have to be revved to make power. Yes, it won't come onto boost like a turbo, but there won't be as much of a traction issue either. A vortech setup will build boost till you shift, inless you build a setup with a wastegate(yes it is being done). A proper vortech setup will be a good setup for a ls/vtec that revs to 9k. It will match the powerband perfectly for what i want.
Going to be going to a 84mm bore with a gsr crank, not a ls. Plans are to rev it to 9k(tops).

Ahh...i write enough responses that it becomes an auto-pilot activity. The Vortech, i know is a centrifugal sc, of which i'm not a fan. If it fits your goals, so be it. The lag of a turbo and the top end of a supercharger...not my thing, but it will give you the feeling of a large NA engine under the hood of your Honda

Find a kit someone pulled off or see if procharger still makes one. With the high revving n/a motor and a centrifugal no big worries about traction at lower rpms, so i can get it moving before it starts to spin. Of course nitrous will end that and the torque problem also.
I'll travel that route when i get there.
