Default Headers

I got a d16y8 was wondering what headers to go with its pretty much stock motor wise other than an intake and exhaust. Also was wondering how people felt about ebay headers, are they worth a sh*t or no?

For a D series, you don't stand to gain much power from the addition of a header in place of the stock exhaust manifold so which one you choose should be a matter of reliability only. Ebay parts have a reputation of being low-quality; ergo, i would stay away from them. Find something by DC or another known brand

yup, i ran a dc header on all 3 of my d series i've owned, as ^ said u won't see much if any "gain"
from just a header, although u will notice a slight differance throughout the rpms in where u can feel
the power just nothin crazy. to utilize vtec and gain high end go for a 4-1 header header, but for dd
a to b transportation just get a 4-2-1. imo i would get a catback too, possibly a high flow cat but that's
up to u, oh and btw u only have one header lol not 'headers' gl with ur d series build tho!

not sure if u ever consider boost, but for the price u will pay on a new header u could have half a
turbo kit, maybe a complete kit if used or a junkyard build and u could have 35-75hp instead of only
5-10...just some food for thought

I dont know how much an NA header costs, but i dont know about half of a turbo kit. Even for a SUPER cheap turbo kit, its going to cost upwards of $1500 after everything unless you use rusty, junkyard-quality parts...at which point, you lose a ton of reliability and effectively negate all the fun of having a turbo setup.

Ebay is a store some of the headers offered are rubbish others are good parts.

Then again you need to select a header for your app. Since just because it fits your engine doesn't mean it'll meet your goals.

a header for a d-series will give you about 6 more hp but you wont feel it at all, the thing that makes a diff is the intake and you can see it in the revs, and when i was a noob and thought d's were the fastest things in the world i put a header on my d16 and nothing happened in speed so it'll be seen on a dyno chart but not on the road, if you had 20 hp modded in the motor you'll only have around 7-10 of it be used to the wheels

i was looking into getting a header for my d-series sometime soon too. i've been seeing used dc sports headers on craigs for around 100 bucks, and i've also heard the megan racing ones aren't too bad for the price, plus those are stainless where most of the used dc ones are the ceramic. which one would be a better pick?

well like it has already been stated putting a header on a stock D series isn't gonna be a big benefit except visual and sound. however Bisimoto makes headers that are the cream of the crop... you can see up to a 16hp gain on a stock D series with one.... however it will see you back a smooth 700 bucks... which im sure you have no intentions of spending that much for a header on a stock D.... but it is an option.....

For an unmodded D, just get an ebay one. It's cheap, it fits, and it works. I'm running one now, I/H/E setup. No reason to drop big money on a header when that money would be better spent on part of a turbo kit.

Well Am happy with my DC mated to APEXi N1 Sounds good and I don't really think they are a bad choice, but just like b20hatchek above

"a header is nice in all but if you know in your stomach your not gonna money into the motor why put a header on when you wont see or feel the diff?"

I did it for the sound but as far a performance I didn't notice a diff untill I got my S2 Intake Manifold and Blox 66mm Throttle body install. but that's just me XD

I have seen too many crappy Ebay headers on various Hondas (H,B, and D series) have bad exhaust leaks.

The flanges are crappy and usually leak, and if you get a 2 piece model then good luck replacing the crap gasket there WHEN it starts leaking like crazy.

Get a well established name brand being mentioned here.

I agree with this. The flange that attaches to my exhaust doesn't fit right since the 2nd piece of the header is smaller than my exhaust so it leaks there and the gasket that goes between the 2 pieces DID leak when I first got it, but I fixed it with some of that permatex copper gasket maker. Hasn't leaked since.

I would go with a 4-2-1 header. I put a 4-1 on my z6 motor and it had no back pressure whatsoever. Stick with the 4-2-1 if you're running stocking internals. You'll get more bang for your buck. Althought not a terribly noticable difference when i swapped my 4-1 with my 4-2-1 it was like night and day. DC sports is the way i've always gone and will continue so until they fail me..... which has been never.
