HELP!!! Cant find anyone in North Jersey to Tune my Civic
Ok Boys! I got a steal of a deal on this 1997 Civic DX. Motor Work and just threw a Turbo in it. Now im stuck because I obviously need it Tuned. It has Kenji ECU with Precision 550 Injectors. I cant find anyone to Tune my ECU because they dont have the Software. Please help.. finally go the car done and ready but i am really stuck here.. Thanks. Angelo
What software are you referring to? Kenji used to chip ecu's correct? So what you have is the run of the mill OBD1 chipped ecu with a OBD2a-OBD1 ecu harness. If all this is true, then you can drive right over to about 5 shops right now in NJ and get tuned on at least 4 different software packages.
If this isnt what you have installed in your car, post a picture of your ecu without the cover so we can see the circuit board. That would greatly help your chances of clearing up the confusion.

Thanks for replying Turbo Church! Ill be the first to admit im not the most technical however what you're saying is starting to make sense to me. Ill run that by my guy thats doing the work.. It may ring a bell with him as he is much more knowledgable then I am. If you dont mind, you obviously know what you're talking about, when I call places that do tuning, do I just tell them exactly what you said I have?
I guess whats kind of confusing to me is if its as easy as you're saying it is why is it that every place I call to tune my car the first question aside from what kind of car, is what kinda of ECU...? I tell them kenji and they tell me they dont..
One day this will make sense but right now, this is the 1 and only thing that confuses the daylights out of me when it comes to "Beefing" up a motor...the Tuning!!!
Thanks again Turbo Church.. You're the man!

Ive never heard of or seen a kenji ecu. But as turbochurch said there could be just a pretuned chip inside of it. In which case you can get that chip depinned and your tuner can put a socket in with a chip that he tunes your setup with. Thats if its a standard honda ECU. good luck
First things first, locate the ecu on the passenger side of the car behind the kick panel. Pull it out of the car by disconecting the harness. Take a picture of side of the ecu that has a label on it clearly enough or post exactly what is written on the label.
If you are confortable with this part then continue to prove what you have is actually useful to tune. Remove the five screws holding down the ecu cover and at this point you will have to take a picture of the internal contents.
If you are not comfortable and just dont want any more hassle, purchase an OBD2a-OBD1 ecu harness and a OBD1 chipped ecu while at your tuning appointment at one of the many shops located near you. I would recommend giving Xenocron a call or email. He should remember Kenji Ecu's and has all the above parts to tune your car.

TurboChurch... I called the place you gave me Xenocron and i explained to him what I have (using your verbage) and he stated he will be able to Tune my car using a Software called ECTune. This sounds promising although im not our of the woods yet but many thanks, i appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Ill let you know how I make out.

Excellent. Verify what ECU you have to make sure. Either way, if you need parts to remedy the situation, he has them on the shelf at the time of your tune for extra $ of course.
eCtune is good software as well as NepTune. I prefer NepTune because I use it. Hondata would require additional hardware ( $$$) but works well also. I would research the above software solutions and then ask Chris (Xenocron) the cost of tuning on which ever you decide fits you and your car.
