Brake Q's
Well since ill be doing a brake job in the near future I'd like to ask a few questions before I even start shopping. What do most of you guys use for rear pads? What would be sufficient enough for street and track? Keep in mind im trying to save so change here. Also, this might be a silly question, but where can I get some cheap rear rotors as well? I know that autozone carries the fronts but i'm not sure about rear, can anyone fill me in? TIA

I think the hardcore guys like Warren still use stock pads ...?
something about how the front gets nose heavy and causes the back to get really light...an aggressive pad might cause lockup....
ANYBODY ELSE?

The nose actually dives MORE when you run a less aggressive compound on the rear than on the front. I'm now running the Carbotech XP on the front and rear, and am loving the balance. I'd like to try some of Andie's product soon, though.
BTW, You can run the XP setup on the street as well. I haven't changed my pads since CMP back in early August. Not too much dust, and no corrosion as well.

Well I just ordered some Axxis Ultimates under the recommdendation of Andie. (exceptional customer service btw) Now what about rotors fellas? Does autozone carry these too?
I am recommending the following hybrid setup:
STREET/AUTOX
FRONT -- AXXIS ULTIMATE
REAR -- AXXIS ULTIMATE
TRACK
FRONT -- FERODO DS3000
REAR -- AXXIS ULTIMATE
This setup works, under both types of driving. The Axxis Ultimate is a better choice for the rear, for track use, as it has a much higher fade point than the R4S, which tends to crumble at temperatures exceeding 700F. Further, on the street, the Axxis Ultimate has a lower dust and noise level, and will wear better.
On the track, the Ferodo DS3000 is extremely rotor friendly. Corey Jacobs ran the DS3000 for 4 full race days (practice, qualifying, race), and the pads will have one more race in them, and the rotors are, literally, like new...no grooving whatsoever. Further, the flat torque curve of the Ferodo DS3000 allows for much faster on-off brake pedal use, and thus faster recovery times, which lead to longer rotor and pad life. My customers who have run the DS3000 thus far (ITR, NSX, Prelude VTEC, BMW E36 M3, Porsche 911), have all come back with the same comments: this is the best track/race pad I have every used. Truth be told, I was somewhat (pleasantly) surprised by how good the compound was, that is, the extent to which it outperforms other compounds.

I've got Axxis Ultimates(from Andie) front and rear and I love it, oh I also have the fastbrakes.com 'SpecR' front 11" upgrade(with TypeR calipers) on my 99 GSR, so I essentially have the same brakes as R's. Enjoy
