Icon2 Switching places? Radio and Climate Controls

1990 Civic DX (Hatchback): Is it possible to put the climate controls where the radio is, and to put the radio where the climate controls were? So... climate control down, radio up!

I've been searching for a couple days, and I can't seem to find a solid answer as to if this has been done, or if it is possible.

-I view the climate control cables as being the biggest possible issue.
-The face space for each of the "parties" look approximately the same size. (I saw several pictures of guys using "radio face delete panels" in place of their removed climate controls)

Does ANYONE have any input/experience/PICTURES on this?

Your problem is going to be the way the cables run. As the climate control face can be "fragile" I would be carful giving it a shot.

I figure it would be safer to have the radio higher to keep eyes on the road more when changing stations and what not. Plus, I notice that most newer Hondas all have the radio above the climate controls. Finally, I just want to know if it can be done.

I am really surprised that no one has tried this before. Can it be true?

I'll do it tomorrow. I've been to lazy to just "do it" but I'll be getting off my *** for sure tomorrow and let you know if it's for sure possible or not.

The climate controls and radio "switch" is a no go without noteworthy modifications. The heater core box behind the dash would have to be chopped to allow clearance for the depth of the radio. The console bracket would have to be modified to allow the climate controls to be at the right depth for the lower DIN area. Surprisingly, the cables are not the most limiting factor. If someone has removed all of their climate controls it is certainly a feasible option. In summation, it MAY be possible, but one would need access to some raw materials to make one-off brackets and would need to be willing to chop into factory components to make it work. There is some small differences in height and width of the climate controls vs. the radio DIN that would create some small gaps and unfinished looking final results.

At least we know now. I was really surprised no one had done this before (Or at least I couldn't find any reliable record of it.

I did it in my hatch and installed a 7" screen. I made it easier to get to the DVD player and better to see the screen. But I had to grind down the heater vent clock area. The heater controls reside in a universal radio under dash mount.
