215/40/17's on a 96 coupe. Search is down, need quick help
Hey guys, been almost 5 years since I last posted here. I just got another civic, and tomorrow i'm heading out to pick up a set of used wheels and tires. The tires are 215/40/17's. Does anyone have any experience with these on a EJ?? I'm thinking that they should be fine but i'm not gonna go out and spend 450-500 buck on a new set of 205/40's.
The search function is not working for some reason (server down) so i just need a quick answer before i go drive 2.5 hours to pick up these wheels.
I just need to know if there will be any clearance issues. with the 215 width??? I know that 205/40's work fine on them, but is that extra 10mm of width going to create rubbing issues??
Yeah, i know that 17's are big and what not. I used to have 15" Circuit 8's on my old hatch and loved em. but the EJ is slightly different and does not seem to mind larger wheels.

I put my buddies 16" grids on the car just to get an idea and they look AWESOME on HIS 94 hatch but IMO just a little small on my car. He was running 205/40/16's though.
215/40/17 is within about 1% of factory tire size so they should work just fine. i personally wouldnt run 17's but that just my opinion. technically the overall diameter works
Well, I got em on today. They work fine. and they look fine.
I used to be an all JDM style guy but I just want to try something different on this one. The rims that I got actually look just fine on my car. I'm happy with them and that is all that matters.
I am NOT a ricer or will ever be one. I've been doing this stuff long before many of these kids here could drive. I just want my own style for now. Maybe later when and if I decided to start track driving. I will get some 16's and call it done. For now, this car will just be a daily driver. Motor work is next. Looking for an NA Single slam build. Hoping for 200HP.
I have no one here in the area to compete with so my style is my style.

Nope. If it's a '96 Civic DX Coupe, 215/40-17 has a 5 percent larger diameter than the factory tire size of 175/70-13. If it's a '96 Civic HX or EX Coupe, 215/40-17 is 1.3 percent larger than the factory tire size of 185/65-14.
That's why 195/40-17 is a better 17" size for a '96 DX Coupe (2.2 percent larger than stock, but the smallest 17" commonly available) and 205/40-17 is a better 17" tire size for any other '96 Coupe (exact same diameter as stock).
