Default 90' Integra idling problem

the idling jumps from 1000 to 2000, just back and forth, so one of my buddys told me to check my map sensor? and i dont know which one that is.

this can be a ton of things the map sensor is on the back, on the firewall, drivers side next to the 2 "round things" that look almost like big pills with lines coming out of them.. it should be a somewhat square box with an electrical connector and a vacuum line coming out if it.. before you decide its bad check all the vacuum lines (hoses) connected back there and make sure none of them are dry rotted or broken/ disconnected..

best route would be to borrow one that's good and test it otherwise you could just be wasting money

most of the time when a car wont stay at idle its a vacuum leak of some sort

I think the MAP sensor is mounted on top of the throttle body on your stock motor. Testing the MAP sensor often involves using a meter to check what voltage it is putting out at idle when the engine is at normal operating temp. The voltage should correspond to the amount of vacuum being generated inside the IM and can tell you if there is a vacuum leak. However, you can't really test the MAP signal when the RPM is bouncing. You should start by checking all gaskets, seals and vacuum lines on the IM and TB and make sure your idle valve(s) are working properly. Spraying starting fluid on a leak will often cause the motor to rev and pinching closed a vacuum line that is leaking or leads to a leak should stop the RPM bouncing. Once you are certain that there are no leaks anywhere, try properly setting your idle. When did this problem start? Do you ever have a problem with the motor bogging down when you accelerate under load, such as accelerating from a stop on a hill going upwards?

for the da the map sensor is on the firewall but most of this information is correct

Yes you can use one from an obd1 (rarely goes bad), but as mention above it's more of a vacuum leak or the water valve(actually a fast idle valve) underneath your throttlebody.

There is a cap on the FIV with two 8mm bolt or use a phillips screw driver, remove that and you will see something white that looks like a flat head would fit into either side. Turn it in all the way and reassemble. That will probably solve your issue.

IDK if this would help someone help me, but i took off my intake, while the car was on, i put my finger over one of the holes in the throttle body, and it idled normal but as soon as i lifted my finger from it, the idle jumped up and down again, does that mean anything?

and whats a good way to check for vacum leaks?

have you tried just putting coolant in your radiator? maybe you have a clogged coolant line? check this stuff too. i would be willing to bet you have low coolant though

PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation, and remember check your vacuum with vacuum gauge. At idle or when it idle down to 1000rpm, reading should be around 30hg, if not then you have a vacuum leak.

gotta replace the lines. might as well since youre taking them off. all those small lines is what i am talkin about. your radiator hoses and heater hoses dont really get clogged because they are too big. but my integra did the exact thing and i disconnected the iac thingy (cant remember its name-long day) its on the throttle body. i disconnected that sensor and it idled fine.....(maybe its the iacv) but i did that and it was fine. then i seen it had low coolant so i fixed that and connected the iacv again and it was fixed. i still got the car too. still no problems

Hello i'm a bit new around here. I got a similar problem to yours i was wondering if any one can help me?
I got a DA9 project that needs a bit of work specially the engine The car came with a head swap from a 96 integra GSR but the block is a B18A1 i want to know what's the name of the sensor that goes on top of the throttler body and where it goes connected or how can i hook it up because i can't find any lose or hanging connector around and also the car idles on me a bit and wastes a bit more gas than the usual
