Need urgent help with cam bearing torque settings for b20a
hi all, new to forum and just bought a 1991 honda pelude, its a import and think its not a Vtec motor, sorry i dont know much about these cars but am in the stage of putting on a new head, just need the camshaft caps torque settings.
Can anyone please help me..
Also just want to confirm that the inlet cam has 6 thou on the rocker and the exhaust cam has 8 thou?
Also which is cylinder 1? the gearbox end? or the front of motor end?
Cheers,
Ren

Cam caps
Step 1: 2ft./lbs.
Step 2: 7.2ft./lbs
Cylinder one is nearest to the timing belt.
Valve lash should be on the sticker under the hood, but I usually do .07 and .09, doesn't really matter though, there's three thousanths of tolerance allowed in there per camshaft.

Thanks heaps for that mate,
I mjust setting up everything on it to do the timing, now from what ive heard its a real pain in the a** to get the timing right..
So cylinder 1 piston needs to be up and the valve open to start correct? or am i wrong? is there a mark on the crank pulley to tell which way is TDC and the flywheel has to be TDC aswell as the cams needs to be up with the 2 small marks on side of Cog wheel flush with the surface of the head yeah?
Thanks so far for your help,
Ren

Timing is easiest on the B20A, B18A, and B18B. There's a hole in the top of the cam cap nearest the timing belt, there's also a corresponding hole in the camshafts. See what I'm getting at?
There's a mark on the lower timing cover and a mark on the crankshaft pulley. Turn the crankshaft to TDC using the mark on the pulley to line up with the cover. If you don't trust this mark, you can also do drop a long screw driver into the #1 spark plug hole and watch for where TDC is while turning the crankshaft. Once the bottom is TDC, move to the cams. The cams have an up arrow on them, make sure they are pointing up. Once the cams are aligned, you can see the holes in the camshafts with the corresponding holes in the cam caps, then drop a center punch or a screw driver in these holes to lock the cams in place. Afterwards, you just slide the belt on, loosen the 14mm bolt for the tensioner, let the tensioner spring tighten the belt, and retighten the tensioner bolt.
