This started the other day. When the car is at a stand still it feels like there is very very little power steering if any. When I'm driving it's fine. I can hear a kind of whining noise under the hood when I turn the wheel when the car is siting too. Any idea what this could be?

Any fluid leaking from the PS pump? How's the rack?

 

the whining sound makes me think pump related issues. pull the belt off and see if the noise goes away...

 

Whining is probably the pump.

Could be going bad, could not be getting fluid, belt could be too tight. Bunch of stuff

 

It could be a bad belt, check you belt tightness.

 

time for a new pump and a fluid flush. especially if you hadn't done anything under the hood before the pump started whining.

 

it might be the pump going bad unfortunately. I had that issue and even after doing a ps flush spending a bunch of money on wasted fluid. i just bought a new PS pump.
