welding stainless exhaust tube
So i was looking into MIGing up my own stainless exhaust. i figured id use kteller's kit with magnaflow muffler and such. Kteller uses T304 stainless, i read somewhere magnaflow uses 409, is that a problem?/ wire recomendations?
Another thing, do i need to purge the tube with argon?

409 will rust, its not as pure as 304. You weld 409 just like you weld 304. Heck, Ive welded stainless before with my mig and just mild steel wire. Depends what its for, how much I care. Im no welder though.
For a basic exhaust system, you don't need to backpurge.
You can use stainless wire in your mig, and get the proper gas.. Im unsure, its some type of mix.. atleast the stuff I had was, a different mix from my mild steel gas stuff.
Vibrant advertizes their 4" UBends, as 304SS, I ordered a few.. and there freakin 409, I was pissed, I contacted them.. Just got a bunch of BS that they are very sure its 304, I mean... Its clearly not, I can pick up a 4" U bend with my magnet.. Definatley not 304.. Oh well.
Goodluck, I used a Kteller exhaust on my crx years back, fit like junk. Build your own, buy some bends, and do it from scratch. All you need is a chopsaw and a welder.
90% of stuff out there thats custom and 'premade' fits like garbage, thats why the best way to do things is just to make what you need yourself that way you can make it fit perfect. Well, goodluck.

huh, i looked at some reviews and everyone seems to like Kteller's kits. i might look into getting all my own bends, depends on the price and how much more work it will be.
Im with Hamilton, Ive installed a few Kteller kits and all of them had to be modified so they wouldnt rub or to line up the muffler with the bumper cut outs.
Its a good starting point for a novice but dont expect it to be spot on the first time.

Unless its one of the 'bolt up' systems that are pre-cut and welded for you, honestly most times with a "KIT" you will need to modify the end section to install the muffler. You should always align and set the muffler to the bumper cut out. Especially with different rears available in a gen or those who use lips or even body kits. Plus there are so many variations of mufflers out there. From round to oval, twin loop to offset, horizontal to tipless its impossible to just touch. silly nanny24 if you have any other questions, please email and let me know. You can ask at any time!

Yes, but it was a 'slip fit' weld up one, I did modify it to fit. The main problem was the 'slip fit' joints fit like complete garbage. They WOULD not slide inside eachother, I had to heat the outer almost to a cherry red and cool the inner in ice, and slide it in damn quick and pray it lined up. I was cursing. Never again do I buy any kind of 'kit'
It DID do the job though
