Problem starting - replaced main relay - any ideas?
Hey all,
About 6 months ago my car was acting up and wouldnt start at around 4pm on a humid day. I read a bunch of boards and it seemed the main relay causes these issues. Banging on it with a screwdriver made it start and I had no problems for a few months.
Yesterday it was really hot and the car would start and then run shitty for about 5 seconds then die.
I kept starting it and taping on the relay to see if it would stay on, it didn't. I went in and went to sleep, woke up at 1030pm for work and it wouldnt start at all. It would crank and you could hear it turning but it wouldnt fire.
Today I went to honda and figure I would replace the main relay, plugged the new one in, and still doing the same thing. I turn the key and it just spins and spins and wont turn over.
I really don't have any clue where to go from here, does anyone know anything I can take a look at before I tow it to a garage?

I was reading that, going through their flow chart. I was holding the new relay in my hand, turn the key to on, it clicks. A second later when check engine light goes out, it clicks a second time.
According to the flow chart on that link, that means the relay is dead right... but it's brand new.
This makes no sense

If it were me I would confirm you have all the usual suspects accounted for.
Check that fuel, spark, and timing are all correct
The poor running condition, then stalling doesn't sound like a relay related issue to me.
Have you had any other work done on the car that could cause issues?

I'm not very good at working on cars, not really sure how I would go about checking the fuel and spark, and I'm sure I don't have the equipment to check timing.
I know the other day before I turned it off, the car was on empty, but the gas light hadn't come on yet. I'm going to put a gallon or two of gas in there just to make sure it isn't empty. Who knows, maybe the gas light failed and it has just gone empty.
If that doesn't work, I might call a mechanic to tow it to his shop. Hopefully any repairs don't come to more than about $800 or I'm gonna have a problem
*edit* Put a gallon of gas in and it fired up, probably should have tried that before replacing the relay... oh well
Thanks for the help, I'm glad it was a simple dumb fix ><
