Default {Dontoh's First Car and Build}

Let's start with a little background on me (pertaining to the car) then we'll jump right in and get started on the car and pictures!

I'm 17, currently a senior in high school, graduating in a few months and then heading down to PA for a few years at WyoTech. I'm currently going to my high school for half of the day, then a trade school for the other half where I work on cars in their AutoBody class. We work on customer cars all year (no labor charge, just materials and paint) then after we take our final (as early as March 17th I believe) then we can bring our on rust buckets in and get to work.. That time has rolled around and I'm ready to roll..

Alright so I bought the car for $1900 back in October of 2009 I believe, and it's been basically sitting in the garage waiting for me to get it into school. I have absolutely no set plans for this car, as I'm still learning and there's still a lot to know, so I'll decide on the go and see where it takes me..

The plans I do have, will be fix up the necessary things for the most part, make sure everything is running well and the chassis is sturdy.,

Year: 1995
Model: Civic
Trim: CX
Engine: D15B7
Miles: 200k on body, 140k on motor.
Mods IT CAME WITH: AEM Short ram; eBay coilovers on the front; back ones in a box; new sunroof; 14" rims (no clue what they are)
Deadline for body work (estimated): June 2

I'd sit here and list all the things wrong with the car and what not, but I've spoke enough, there's too much to list, and I wanna keep this positive!!

ALL feedback welcome, I'm sure I'll need it!

Day 1 [Way I got it] ~October 2009. Day I got it
Body is far from perfect, don't let the pix fool ya.

car was in a drunk driving accident with this fender

Day 2 [Everything I've done over the course of a couple months before bringing it into school]
Bought some 7 color interior lights, 7 bars 18" long I think. Not sure how I'll rock em but why not.

Lights tinted with VHT Niteshade, transparent paint.. Not sure if I'm digging it, but if I can find someone that will let it pass inspection I'll rock em

Gutted for a full paint job (best pic for now)

Testing out the new subs/amps. 2 Type R Alpine 12" subs in a bandpass box with 2 alpine 300w amps, can't have a car without music.. If anything goes wrong in it, just turn it up and it'll go away! $425 with all wires from a friend

I'll clean this up when they're in for good

Picked up some engine enamel- red, black and clear.. I'll have fun with that later

Hit the "perfect body with no rust (that the guy who sold it to me explained)" with a screw driver..

New antenna I put in myself, other one was garbage.. I'll have to take it out since bodywork needs to be done around it

Black suede w/red stitches shift boot

Day 3 April 21st, 2010
Up on the trailer! Front bumper had to come off, was too low to get on without breaking something.. The car RANKK of clutch after getting it up there, was so bad

Got a present in the mail! I love presents
$35 shipped from amazon, got here in like 2 days

5 panel wink mirror with mount kit, hope its not generic

More to come as progress.. progresses
Stay tuned *****, and bump if ya look!

well, theres alot of negative things i can say but its your first car so its an experimental thing. its cool for what you want to do and hope it turns out how you like. just be sure when you do things to the motor, you do it right.

Yeah for sure, and I'm sure I know what you have to say.. The lights were a mistake to buy as I've been trying to sell them and the light tint was probably a bad idea too but they're kind of growing on me.. I'm sure everyones gone through a "ricer" stage at one point when they were younger, I just thank god I wasn't out there buying body kits and spoilers..

As far as the engine goes, that's exactly why I'm holding off on it until I know more and know what I'm doing for the most part

Look good and yes i know it isn't that eazy to fix rust sometimes. From the look of that rust, it seem like there might be more from the inside..

Yeah, there's definitely more on the inside. As much as it sucks to cut out chunks of the 1/4, I'll rather do it right and get rid of ALL the rust than have it come back in the future and bite me in the ***..

I took a step where the passenger floorboard meets the rear bench and fell through to the ground.. Yayyy!....

Thanks^

No updates for today, finished up body work and paint on a Supra though..

I'm not so sure about the tinted lights, it just seems like it'll turn too much attention from the cops, and it's just one more thing for them to be rude about..

I'm also not too sure how far I want to take this car. I'd love to go b series/boost but dropping that kind of money on a chassis that will have well over 200k miles? It just seems unrealistic

Ah well.. I'll figure it out eventually. Body work will start tomorrow for sure.. Will PROBABLY, not certainly, start with cutting out the rust (1/4s, skirts, and passenger floorboard) and trying to bang out the damage to the passenger fender to line things up.. Hopefully I can get started on stripping the paint..

This is where I need everyones help; I'm sick of how common my car is, everywhere I look there's milano red eg's, it's ridiculous.. If anyone here knew me, you'd know I like to be different. This brings me to my question, I'm thinking of covering my hood, back of wink mirror, and possibly bike rack in stickers- now I know it's not completely unique, but it's definitely not common.. Stickers would consist of everything- tuner stickers, kid stickers, smiley faces, everything. Let me know whatcha think!

Day 4 4/27/10

Finally got started on the car today, sorry but it's not much of an update and no pictures because I was too frustrated fixing the damage from an accident..

It's been raining for the past couple days here, yeah I know- ridiculous. I went to pull my car into the garage to start working on it and was greeted with a nice pool of water under my pedals.. No idea how water is getting in there. The mat under the pedals was soaked so it seems like it's getting in near the firewall somehow I just don't HOW.. It might be due the the fact that there's no inner fenders or mudflap

Took the passenger fender off and took a 2x4 and hammer to where it bolts in. Banged it out pretty far and it's just a MESS. When I put the fender back in it was still off by a lot- very frustrating. I'll have to get back at it tomorrow and then bondo up the bay area where it's all mangled and leave it at that.

So tomorrow I'm planning on getting the fender fixed and in bondo, then I'll get crackin on the actual fender, hood and then drivers side fender..

Sorry for no pictures, I'll post pictures of everything by this weekend!

Day 6 4/29/10 Drivers side 1/4 and hood started

Alrighty, this should be a decent update.. There's pictures this time!!

Let's go,
Pass fender, being pulled/banged out

Still not flush enough for me, but it's getting there

Some spots on the hood in bondo, hood isn't getting too much attention for now

I welded the H emblem holes, figured I'd bust the oxyacetylene out- can tell it's been awhile

Grinded

Then my teacher pulled me aside, gave me a pen and paper and told me to write down the spot on the car that is the worst and needs the most attention.. I wrote down the rusted 1/4s and he told me to start there. Why? Because if I do the hardest things first, and start getting bored with the car, the easy things won't look like **** if I half-*** it.. Soo, I jumped to the 1/4s.

new exhaust for the car

grinder slipped, if you ain't bleeding, you ain't doing it right! finger's broke anyway

Hello **** loads of duraglass/bondo

Hole cut out, cleaned up

tracing out the piece of metal needed to be cut

teacher cutting up the fiberglass cloth ****

duraglass, looked funky so i snapped a pic

fiberglass in on the inside

while I was waiting for the fiberglass to dry, sanded the bondo down on the hood, pic doesn't do much justice cuz of the dust.. just realized someone wrote "HI"

metal fits pretty perfect, needs to be grinded down just a bit to make it smoother and bottom needs to be hammered upward a bit but it's not bad

ran out of time today, so parked 'er outside and she can wait til tomorrow

Yeah I know, I figured fiberglass won't rot out if I missed any rust, and it's a lot easier to get in there than metal

updates in a few

Day 7 - 4/30/10 Finished fiberglass on drivers 1/4, metal grinded to fit, started on pass 1/4

Alrighty,

drivers 1/4 in fiberglass, not much need to sand it down since it won't be seen

started on pass 1/4 so while that was drying i could weld drivers side, didn't get to it tho

pass 1/4 panel

cut out, did it a few times since kept finding more and more rust. camera died so had to use my cell a few times

the bullshit

grabbed some weldable primer, that protects against rust for the metal piece.. really don't want the cancer to return

sprayed

dura/fiberglass inside passenger 1/4

sanded down drivers side 1/4 so the metal would fit properly

here's how she sits at the end of day 7, i'll be right back to work monday!
should be a big update then, check in
outside

in the shop

Day 8 5/4/10 .. 2 days in one here, drivers side 1/4 welded-in bondo

welded in

drivers 1/4 in duraglass.. i used some epoxy on the weld to try and keep it solid

passenger 1/4 in fiberglass

had a serious *** hail storm for about 10 minutes.. 350z gettin fvcked up

a buddys 99 si took quite the beating by these haha

since i went off topic anyway, sick mustang i saw the other day

alright, duraglass was sanded, in bondo now

hood again gettin a bit of love

sky on the way home

that's it for now, tomorrow should be another update, check back!!!

bondo should be sanded, and for the passenger side, i should have the metal cut and welded in if i'm lucky
