SSR EX-C center cap question
Hi guys,
How is the black plastic ring on the SSR EX-C centercaps attached to the cap? I have a set of 4 caps with good plastic rings on them (not faded) and I am thinking of sending the caps out to be re-chromed. The caps have some corrosion on the chrome as well as small rock chips. I'm trying to decide if it's worthwhile to get them re chromed. I don't want to do it if I cant re-use the plastic ring on the cap. Are those held on with some type of double stick tape, glue, or do they snap in somehow where the can be removed and re-attached?
thanks

it is very hard to remove the emblem w/o damaging the plastic. it is basically a resin sticker underneath a plastic shield. i have done this before and i sprayed the sticker back on w/ spray adhesive.
i have done it a couple times but only the fresh, non corroded caps survive. the crusty ones get left w/o an emblem i guess.

Thanks for the reply. My caps aren't terribly corroded but they do need to be refinished. I don't think it's possible to re-chrome them with the plastic pieces on them is it? Man, I'm not sure what to do here. I don't want to ruin the black plastic. Maybe I'll post up some pics tomorrow of what I have. I was hoping they would snap on and off.
I've also thought about possibly sacrificing one and sending it off to get it replicated. I'm not sure how big the market would be for them but this is something I am considering as I think I know of a shop to do it.

posting pics wont do you any good so dont bother. best thing to do is just try a few things and you should know already if the sticker will or wont come off intact.
maybe a heat gun on low (be very careful and dont hold the heat gun too close to the cap cus the plastic will bubble up) and then youll find out. when i did my last one i pried it out w. a tiny flathead screwdriver from the middle of the donut surrounding the keyhole.

Next question, how hard is it to remove the lock in the middle? I'm thinking about removing it on these caps so that (1) I can re-chrome the caps and (2), so that I can swap them out for another set of locks that I have keys for.
Thanks
John
I've used a small nail to jam into the edge, bring up the sticker a bit, and keep jamming nails around it and lifting. Hard to explain. I did slip on one and it did scratch a bit of the top. Thinking of using servo tape to put it back on.
Anyone know a good cheap chromer.

I was thinking of heating it up with a hair dryer....lol
Pmed you.
soak it in water too.
Oh, when I mean nail I sort of mean like a pin or needle. Like a sewing needle. Something small yet can use it as leverage to just bring it up a bit. Then start to wedge more into each small gap.

yeah but if the hair dryer gets too hot the plastic on the emblem will bubble up. trust me ..i tried all that lol
yeah and ive tried the exacto knife, tiny wood nails, etc.. they all work eventually.
you both got pm's

Hahahah, thanks for the advice Ralph. I was thinking that the hair dryer would be less heat than a heat gun...... I guess I just have to be careful no matter what method I try. A part of me is trying to hold off. I'm planning a trip to Japan early next year. Hopefully I will come home with boxes of caps..........haha
