v6 transmission is slipping a little
help my transmission is slipping when it shifts and i know some people have heard about them going bad but i need to know if it is just a torque converter or if it is the actual transmission. i believe it is the torque converter but i am not sure any info is welcome and do not flame me cause this is not a pointless post, and yes i am going to the dealer tomorrow to get it checked out.
A 2001 Accord?? Go to the dealer for warranty. I have heard that these transmissions are common failure points and there may be an update that the dealer has to do.

Update procedure (Ive seen about 50 of these come in this summer):
1. Lift car on hoist (wear safety goggles)
2. Remove old transmission
3. Install new transmission
4. Lower car

My MOm's got a 2001 V-6. As soon as the tranny starts feeling "odd" shifts are not as crisp you change the tranny fluid with Honda Transmission Fluid, good as new. I'm not even talking about a full flush. I just change her tranny fluid every 12-15K and it's been fine.
Have you ever changed the tranny fluid?

A tranny cooler would void my waranty. I am going to the dealer tomorrow and getting new tranny fluid and flushing it and if that does not correct the problem i will take it to the dealer. To the question of what does it feel like the answer is that it shuddered a little and just slipped a little bit when it shfted but after i let it sit for a few hours it was fine. It did not slip and it shifted fine. i think that the fluid just needs to be changed. But thank you to all of you guys for the serious answers and the help. I am glad to not see any noobs on here taking my time with pointless posts. thanks again i hope it is alright, but if it isn't there will be a new tranny in my car soon.
So i went to the dealer today and got some tranny fluid and went home and changed it and then test drove it. It ran like it was brand new no suddering no slipping nothing just smooth shifts and really good feel. Thanks for your guys help and the info. I suggest that anyone with a AV6 should change the tranny fluid about every 15,000 miles at the most. I know that sounds like a lot but it is better for the fluid. My own idea about the problems with the trannys is the fact that people do not change the fluid enough. But i am no expert so do not flame me for saying that. Again thanks to all.
Just remember the amount that you "changed" was just a fraction of the quantity of the tranny fluid that is in the transmission. So if it starts to feel like it used to not too long remember that is because the old transmission fluid and the new fluid have comingled enough to cause it to feel odd again. The only true way to change it is to have that machine hooked up that sucks out the old stuff and replaces it with the new stuff, but I think if you keep changing it you get pretty close to the same affect. Anyhow good luck with it, I really thinkt hat the V-6 Tranny can be reliable but it takes some TLC to keep it that way.
i hope you are not saying that i am ignorant. I changed the fluid in the bottom just to see if that would help i am going to have the whole thing flushed before next weekend because i am going on a trip. This was just to test and see if new fluid would help. You can however flush the tranny fluid without a machine it just takes a lot of fluid and a lot of time. You have to drain and fill the old fluid then go for a short drive and drain it and fill it again. Do that about three times and you get the same effect as using a machin. That is what one of the techs at Honda told me.
ok i see thanks for clearing that up i was afraid that there was about to be a flame war and i do not want that. P.S. nice name
how many miles doe you have on your accord? Mine is slipping/stuttering during shifts too. I had my honda dealer flush the trany fluid about 5-10,000 miles ago. so I'm not sure if I need to take it back to them and have them flush it again or check the trany itself?
