Default 1990 Accord CB7 F22B1 SWAP....NEED HELP

I have a 1990 Honda Accord and Im about to do a f22b1 sohc vtec swap, but I cant seem to find a thread that is answering my question. Basically I want to know if I can do the swap and just wire up vtec normally like you would do with a gsr or something or do I have to get the 90-97 Accord to F22b-VTEC harness from rywire in order to wire up the vtec? CAN SOMEONE HELP ME ASAP. THANKS

You don't need to order a special harness. You can add the wires yourself if your handy. I don't know exactly what it takes to add VTEC to a GSR. But to add VTEC to an Accord you need a VTEC ECU and to run the wires to the VTEC solenoid & Pressure Sensor.

Note:The 96-97 F22B1 OBD2 VTEC Accord does not use a VTEC pressure sensor.

There are a few other wiring issues that you may bump into though. The CKP & TDC sensors on OBD2 F22B1 engines are located down on the oil pump housing not in the distributor like the OBD1 F22B1s. This may also be included in the Rywire harness??????

Question is, How handy are you with reading wire diagrams and cutting and splicing wires and adding connectors? These are a few things you may bump into depending on what year/OBD the engine you have is.

Okay the motor that I have is obd1. And I'm pretty handy with reading wire diagrams and cutting and splicing wires. So basically all I need to do is get the vtec ecu, run the wires from the vtec solenoid and pressure sensor to the proper pins on the ECU?

It depends on what vacuum actuated systems you have kept in your car and what OBD the engine you have swapped in is.

Here is the vacuum diagram for a 94-95 OBD1 F22B1

If there are any systems shown above that you are not using, simply plug the vacuum port that is shown as being used.

The throttle body mounted MAP sensor would be the better one to use. All you need to do is connect the 91 MAP wire connector to the T/B MAP for it to work. The ECU - MAP sensor wiring doesn't change, however, you may need to extend or pull out the 91 MAP wiring. As it may not be long enough to reach the throttle body mounted MAP sensor.

The MAP sensor on your USDM PGM-FI 91 Accord should have a round 3 wire connector, (+) 5v , (+) signal & (-) ground.

What ECU are you using to run your F22B1?

3 wire MAP

YEL/WHT = D19 sensor 5v ref (+)
GRN/WHT = D21 sensor ground (-)
WHT/YEL = D17 sensor signal (+)

IAC

BLK/BLU = A9 sensor ground (-) (ECU)
YEL/BLK = A25 or B1 sensor, with ignition on = battery voltage (+)

In theory that would work. However, without the VTEC ECU when you switch to the VTEC via a relay. The fuel and ignition maps in the ECU will not change to compensate for the increase in air. This could cause the engine to run lean and possibly overheat the pistons. I would wait until you can get a VTEC ECU.

alright what you should get is an ecu (computer) from a 94-97 accord ex vtec.all you have to do is run 3 wires. i know that one goes to a4 and the other to d6 the last one is a ground.google a f22b1 ecu pinout that will tell you everything you need to know. i did my swap in a 91 but should be the same.its late so i cant do tonight but if you need more help email me at big_b45044atyahoo.com
