questions about EK enging swap to EF
Hi, i have a EF Civic with no engine. I am thinking to get a EK D16 engine and put it into EF. If i got a D16 engine, D16 harness, D16 computer, is that ok that i take everything out from EF and put all EK part in? Cuz some of my friends said that I have to do lots of wiring job to make the cluster work and some said just put all D16 part in and everything will work. So i'm not sure who is right. And another question is can D16 or D15 computer work on SOHC ZC engine which is JDM CRX engine? Thanks.
you will need the wiring harness for your car, not the ek wiring harness
you will need to convert to mpfi if your car is not already. just research it.
i recently put a d16y8 in my car so i can help if you have any questions

So what engine is the best choise for my EF? Right now I have D15 computer and harness on the car. My friend have a D16 non vtec engine not sure its from EG or EK. What is the best way to make this car running again? Thanks.
OP, yes you can run a obd2 motor, but your best bet is convert everything to OBD1 since obd0 parts are harder to find and tuning options are not as wide open as 1.
Also obd1 cars always seem to run cleaner get better milage and power I've found from running a lot of 0s and 1s.
Search the FAQs on D series swaps and obd1 wiring you'll be set. Best of luck, if you need anything just post up.

Don't forget that if you swap in an OBD1 or 2 complete swap, you will have to get a cable to hydro conversion kit, and driver's side mount bracket, etc... Can add up pretty quickly if you are on a tight budget. I'd highly recommend you just search for a complete OBD0 D15 or D16 engine instead if you are " just trying to get it running ".
If I have a D16 non vtec engine, harness, ECU. Can I just take out all computer, harness from EF chassis and change them to EK D16 part, convert obd0 to obd2, will that work? It just like EK but in EF shell. I know the cluster might not work, will the car be drivable?

just do this. get a d16a6. you need to conver to mpfi if you have a std or dx hatch. if you have a si you dont need to, then get a pm6 ecu and thats it. swap it in. its obd-0. so items you need:
d16a6 motor,and cable tranny d series
pm6 ecu(its the computer)
convert to mpfi if needed. thats it! have fun

Ok. Umm I'm hearing a lot of nonsense. Here is what can u can do to get the swap working:
-take the full motor/trans & harness
-if it's an ex motor (d16y8) trade the harness for the si model of your chassis
-you will need to go to the junk yard and snag the mount bracket the goes into the timing belt cover from any 88-91 civic/crx
-sell or trade the transmission from the ek for a cable driven 89-91 civic/crx si
-purchase a td-02u or 18u distributor 88-91 si
now you only need to get some stock mounts and shift linkage if your missing them. You DO NOT need to convert the car to obd1 all the sensors will plug right in with your original harness. You will notice how ever that the Y8 motor has a knock sensor, your not gonna worry about it.
This last part is an option, you can get the obd1 ecu, 4-wore o2 sensor and ecu jumper if you like. If u plan to go obd1 then keep the original distributor and harness because you will be needing those plugs for te jumper harness. Aside from that your set

Thans for commends.
I can get whole set of engine from 95 civic si, I think its D16Z6, which include harness and ECU. My plan is to convert EF to OBD1 and swap this motor in. I'm going to buy a OBD1 conversion harness. What else do I need now? Thanks.
