Default Buddy Club Spec 2 exhaust = the same as running straight header?

I have a question for the engine gurus. Is running the Buddy Club Spec 2 muffler the same as running a straight pipe from the cat converter back? Okay heres the deal, i have 2.5 inch piping w/resonator from the cat converter mated up to a Magnaflow oval style muffler. I wanted to run the Buddy Club Spec 2 muffler. Wouldnt i get the same effect if i just had the muffler shop take off my Magnaflow and weld in a piece of 2.5 inch pipe there? The reason i ask is because the Spec 2 doesnt even look like it has packing inside...it just looks like a straight though piece of pipe that looks like a muffler. Hope this makes sense. Thanks

P.S. my mistake in the title, straight header but keeping the cat converter...so i guess its more like a muffler delete. Also besides high DB levels, will doing this still pass smog/affect the engine in a negative way?

its loud.
You'll pass smog with ur cat on.
You might get a "modified exhaust ticket" since it is loud but louder w/ a RH.
It won't be super loud and obnoxious like a open header setup but it's still loud.
The spec2 is meant to save weight.

The endpiece itself doesn't not have any packing.

I had one on my EG Type-R and it was loud as hell! I was able to make the windows on a bus vibrate when idling at a light! Loved it but hated it for all the tickets I got!!!

I would also... I mean I would love to do it all over again on the EP3 but honestly I don't feel like becoming the cops favorite target this summer!

lol ^

I think i can get away with it for hella years (knock on wood), because my Magnaflow is pretty loud right now, not N1 loud but im guessing its at least 95 db...loud enough to get noticed at least. However i opted for the Magnaflow oval style muffler with 2.5 inch tip, then painted it matte black with high heat exhaust/header paint. Everyone who sees it who is not familiar with the EP3/or most of the masses in general thinks its OEM. Also i believe the 02-05 Civic Si aka EP3, isnt the typical Honda Civic the cops have come to know and expect. Some even think its a hybrid lol. I heard my friends DC2 with a Buddy Club Spec 2, and surprisingly when its kept under 4K rpm and granny shifted, it doesn't garner to much attention. After 4K it really wakes up and pops/drones, thats when you go damn that **** is loud.

Im just going to throw in my 2c and I know this thread is 3 years old.

I just got one installed and originally thought I could put up with the sound but really, it is REALLY loud. Driving home from the garage that installed it all I was thinking that I hope I don't get pulled over and I instantly put on the silencer after I got home.

Not for the feint of heart. Even at 2500-3000 rpm, you're easily hitting 125+ db

I miss my Spec 2. With a cat, it was loud but totally bearable. Once I put a race header on, NOPE. That **** was LOUD. It's so loud I couldn't even be able to begin to describe it. So loud I had to put a muffler on lol

You might as well be running open header. Worst exhaust, if you can even call it that, ever.

The idle sounded awesome. But as soon as you gave it any gas it sounded like ***. Loud, raspy, annoying. Was cool for about 20 minutes lol. Once I save up enough I'll go custom 3" with a resonator and HKS muffler because I'm a ricer and love the big cans

I have it on my ep w/ a k20a2 and dcrh. Definitely not for the faint of heart and it is louder than my old 3" that had 2 resonators and no muffler.

I like the way they look. But it's to loud. Have a couple friend with it, one ef with d15b and another kid with a h22 teg.

Anyone in here running header/test pipe combo?
