Default Buying an Accord Hybrid... advice?

Hi Everyone
I currently drive a 2004 Accord V6 and it's great. But I want something with a little better gas mileage without sacrificing any power. So, I was looking at buying a 2005 or newer Accord Hybrid. I found a good deal on a 2006 but I'm not sure about a few things.
I've heard the IMA system isn't very good and jerks the car a lot. I've also heard that over the years the system performs less and less efficiently and after a few years you will be down to a 25mpg average, which is about what I get in my current car.

If anyone has experience they can share with me about the Accord Hybrid that would be great. I am planning on going for a test drive soon but I want to know if it's worth it before I spend my time at a dealership.

Thanks!

Advice?

Don't buy an Accord Hybrid.

You'll save more money by not buying a new car and continuing to drive your '04 V6 than you will make up in the moderately improved mileage of the Hybrid.

I have several customers who have been driving Accord Hybrids for several years and lots of miles and have not indicated any of the things you describe. That being said, Targa makes a good point.

Accord Hybrid was one of those cars that's typical Honda - thinking outside of the box. Sometimes, that makes no sense. Honda wanted to show that Hybrids can still be powerful and "high performance." Great.

But that's not why people buy Hybrids.

I'm not an owner, so this does not answer your questions. I am a fan of Hybrids, and do plan to get one, one day.

i have owned my accord hybrid since july of 2005 its up to 80k NO ISSUES.

The issue your talking about jerking becuase of the IMA system, well i assure you the accord does not have this issue, that refers to the start clutch in civic hybrids CVT trans. its annoying.

Via my calculations with the mileage i am still getting 32 mpg on a 30 mile commute daily trip computer says 36.

I personally love this car best daily driver i have ever owned and i'm sad i'm getting rid of it in a month its being given to a family member.

Also just be forwarned do not jump start this car or jump anyone with cables. the MCM is quite pricey. thats the only time i have seen an IMA system failure out of an accord. Civics are a different story but the accord seems to be much more reliable IMA wise.

hope this helped

I just bought a 2005 HAH recently. It has 63k miles on it, and the car so far is very good. Regarding mileage I got an average highway mileage of 36 mpg on a highway with a lot of uphill (and of course downhill) driving. Before the part of highway with ups and downs the computer reading was 41 mpg (which is most likely the case in most of the USA). On the contrary, my in-city mileage is very bad it was around 15.5, and got improved to around 18 after an oil change. However, the city I live in has a lot of hills, so I think if I were living in a place more flat my mileage would be better.

Hope this helped...

DO IT. My main car is an 81 Z28 with a 383 stroker in it, so 4 cyl cars drive me nuts. The HAH being a V6 hybrid is an amazing concept! EXCELLENT acceleration, Honda V6 power and L4 fuel efficiency. This car CAN get 20mpg, if that's how you drive it. if you accelerate intelligently and maintain ECO (3cyl mode) then you'll get 30-35, which is great in my book. My wife has one but I'm the primary driver, and I absolutely love it. It's the car that made me respect Honda in the first place!
