Your friend doesn't know what he is talking about. The intake manifold might give you a little more higher rpm hp, but you'll lose some low end power. The distributors are the same. And the ECU will just cause more problems. The way the VTEC-E works is that 1 of the 2 intake valves per cylinder is closed until VTEC activates; somewhere around 2500-3000 rpm. If you use a P28 ecu (Z6), VTEC will activate around 4800 rpm. Meaning that 1 intake valve per cylinder will be closed until then. So you're going to be choking your engine of air, but you're going to be giving it more fuel than it will need.

The D15Z1 isn't meant for power, it's meant for fuel economy only. If you really want more power, you'll need to swap out the engine. It sucks, but that's the truth. I have a '94 CX, with 22hp less that you do, believe me I feel your pain.

Interesting what civicspoon says about the Vtec activation, wasn't really sure about the P28 activation phase. I'm actually making a mini-me swap to my super kick *** D14A4 (yeah i know it suck's) but the difference in performance it's way more important than in other type of engine, starting by a smaller displacement and no Vtec, seen a couple of guys going up to 120 hp with only the Z6 head and intake and some tuning. great deal considering de stock D14 is only 90hp...
