Pilot - Fluttering sound at around 40mph
Hello,
Could you please help me diagnose an issue with my Honda Pilot.
* 2005 Honda Pilot, 104K miles
* Fluttering sound that seems to be coming from under the hood towards the driver side. Sounds like when you insert a piece of paper into a table fan..
* Happens in a narrow speed range - 38 to 42 mph
* Sound stays for a few seconds and goes away. Comes back again after a few seconds/minutes.
* Sometimes the sound comes and goes off instantly
* Sound goes away IF there is even a small movement of the gas pedal; VERY sensitive to speed and the longer the same speed, the longer the sound continues.
* Have not noticed the sound during acceleration or deceleration
* Have not noticed the sound at other speeds
* Vehicle is performing fine except for some hesitation occasionally
* Brand new tires, brake pads and rotors
* No issues with power steering, alignment
* Original shocks, ball joints, etc.
Thanks and appreciate any help.

Thanks bryse68.
Yes, it seems like a torque converter and/or transmission related issue.
I read a few other forums as well and this seems to be a common complaint. Unfortunately, I don't have extended warranty and am nervous about the repair costs. I think I will spend the $100 toward the diagnostic fee and have the dealer check it out.
I forgot to mention about the occasional "shuddering" problem as well and a lot of forum posts point toward a transmission problem.
Thanks!
