Why does my alpine system sound like crap???????????
ok i just installed a full alpine system in my 95 civic and it really sounds like complete crap to me, its a really high sound absolutely no base whatsoever, and its sounds really distored at higher volumes. heres what i got.
a Alpine CDA-105 headunit

Alpine Power Pack
this thing supposedly puts out an extra 45w rms per speaker
I have it set on mid range output

Alpine SPS-600C component system
(tweeters in stock door spot) using all stock wires

and I have some pioneer speakers in the back.
my friend has a infinity system and the sound quality is so rich and amazing, i expected alpine to be the better. I had two 12" subs in the trunk and it sounded better but i dont want a huge *** box in my trunk. i spent alot of money on this crap and I am very dissapointed, any experts have any idea what may be wrong? everything was hooked up correctly. the guy from crutchfield told me i could use the stock speaker wires i'm started to think that might be the problem? but idk?

Play with the settings of the "power pack" and on your HU.
And the correct spelling is "bass".
You aren't going to come close to getting the bass level that you had with your subs out of 6.5in speakers...

the power pack only has 2 settings high and mid, on the headunit i turn the bass and treble all the way up and still sounds too high almost like a PA sytem
for what you spent on that power pack, you could've bought a better amp. smh
it's distorting because that power pack is clipping since those speakers are asking for more than the power pack can provide.

You aren't going to get it to sound well without a sub. By turning the bass up in your speakers you have now your ruining the sound quality. What you need is a sub woofer to handle the lows because your setup now is a good setup. You need to block all bass going to your speakers so that they sound clear and crisp, then let the sub handle the lows. I had an all pioneer setup before with no sub and it did exactly what yours does. Once you add a sub and remove the low frequencies from your speakers it will sound ten times better.

Well, those type s speakers are considered entry level..but for what they are, they can sound decent in the right install. get a proper amp for them...not some pyle, legacy 4000 w bs on ebay.
my friend with the infinity doesnt even have an amp and his speakers sound better than mine. mine go alot louder but the quality that his have are way better. and his are coaxial, so i figured a component system would be better. i just went out and put the subs in the car and it does sound a lot better i guess my expectations for these speakers are too high.
yes I know that I see them on amazon for 70$. yea I paid 200 for the headunit, 100 for the power pack, another 150 for the speakers. I've had them in the car for about a month now so im not sure if i can return them. I probably wont anyways. I was just looking at some alpine 4 channel amps but i dont know how to install it. thats pretty much why I bought the power pack because its really simple to install. i figured 60w rms to each channel would be enough
that alpine pack provides 45w not 60
It's not all about wattage, it's also about efficiency. i've heard speakers that'll tear your head off with 10 watts, and speakers that need almost double the power they're rated at to really get moving.

i was including the 18w from the headunit
Its way to earlier in the morn to start dishing out advice but *sigh here goes...
- there is nothing wrong with your gear- PERIOD. The type S are a great alternative to
the OEM speakers and are way more efficient than you expect. With that being said, there are things you can do to the placement to improve on the sound/mid bass response (add sound deadening, use a speaker baffle,etc)-but its not a free lunch.
- No speaker is ever going to replace what an amp and subwoofer can do-PERIOD! If you want BASS-you need that combo. Now if space is an option there's a lot choices (you could go with a single sub or multiple smaller ones ) - but if bass is what you want, its the only way.
What I am saying is,it may take a little work to achieve what you want to do with you car...stick with it and you may be surprised.

Noithing wrong with the stuff you have, EDZY- just likes to hate on everything everyone else has. I have a alpine deck and absoulty love it. And i have had alpine speakers in the past.
Do you have the HPF turned on? (high pass filter)
Do you have the HPF turned on? (high pass filter)
yea i do have the hpf on. do you think if i upgrade to alpine R series 60w rms will be enough to push them?
