my honda civic coupe 1996 somehow when i push the electric button it opens it but only 1/4 inch and no more, i can close it. does anyone have any idea how these electric sun roofs can be mended. any input will be much appreciated.

 

Sometimes mine does the same thing in my 91 hatchback. I can't figure it out either though. So really guys, any input appreciated.

 

It's an intermittent problem so it's probably not the fuses. Try removing the power switch and check all the wire connections. It could also be a bad ground. There's also (2) relays (1 for open, 1 for close) for the factory moonroofs that could be bad. The relay location is behind the Lower steering wheel cover (also holds the change compartment). There's 3 screws that hold the lower cover on and you have to adjust steering column to lowest position b4 removing. Try swapping the relays if there the same and see if the opening problem goes away. The problem might transfer to close side and a guy could get wet if it doesn't close but that way you don't have to buy a relay unless you know it's bad. Don't put the panels back on till you know the problem is fixed. This is on the 96 only, the 91 should be similar or maybe behind drivers kick panel ?? Can't find part numbers for the relays though. It's probably the same relay for both open & close & you should only need the open one. Try local parts house or honda dealer for price & availability.

 

97K22... thank you very much indeed, i will check those relays to see if they are the main cause, if not then i have to strip it, have you ever strip one??? i have the Haynes manual but there is nothing in it about sunroof or moonroof and have also gooogled to see if there is any instruction or even utube but no luck so far many thanks
