Default Cash Out Extended Warranty?

RICO's thread got me thinking.

I rolled a $2200 extended service contract into the purchase price of my Si, since it came so cheap (original price was $22225 OTD). But I'm starting to have second thoughts.

We know that Honda dealers are notoriously loath to perform warranty work and will start playing hardball if they notice even one unrelated modification.

Since I do plan to mod the car (not heavily) I am wondering if it is worth it to have extended warranty protection, given the very good odds that they'll give me a hard time for any mods I plan to do whatsoever (excluding HFP suspension).

I've only got 5k miles on the car so far and that would be a pretty hefty chunk of change in my pocket ATM.

My warranty is structured to cover me for the most time possible (8 years I believe), rather than high miles. I don't pile on miles, perhaps 10k/year (I take public transport to work and barely even need a car to begin with).

What say you guys?

Im in the same situation , im keeping the warranty however ... They can only give you a hard time if they can prove any mod you have made to your vehicle was the source any problem that occurs.

We did this with my wife's Prius when we got rid of it...she was already out of her factory warranty and we still ended up getting like $800 back.

With only 5k miles on the car I would imagine I'd get almost the entire amount of the warranty back.

I dunno man, look at RICO's thread.

Honda knows that people drive these VTEC screamers pretty hard and they look for reasons not to cover stuff. I think I'd rather just understand from the get-go that I'm on the hook for certain things and that's that.

$2200 is only worth it if I know I'm not going to have any problems. I don't pay that kind of money to have them maybe cover something, maybe not.

^ thats true but in my situation its different . I had an ej6 and motor blew , an em1 which got stolen , so my moms took me to the dealer and got me my fa5. She flips out everytime I mod something so imagine if I took the warranty off, she would ****ing kick my *** lol .

The extended warranty is prorated if you cash it in. Since you have only 5k miles on it you should get most of it back. I did this and got about 1300 back from 2200, obviously had more miles. Ask your mechanic if they offer a warranty just in case something does go wrong. I got a 100,000 mile warranty though my mechanic who uses Mercury insurance I believe.
