Icon7 My 1997 Honda Accord

I just recently purchased my honda...love it! However, I purchased HID head lights online not sure where for my car. My boyfriend installed them. They look great however, they flicker. Is this normal? I'm sure they snapped in correctly and are tightly secure.
Another question, my left headlight isn't position right, it's like upward and i bet it blinds the driver ahead of me. how exactly would i go about readjusting it....this will be a girl novice doing this so please break it down for me! Thanks!!!!!

p.s. more questions to come.

there are adjustment screws on the front of the headlights that you can use to adjust the aim...however hid's in those housings are going to blind everyone no matter what. if they are flickering there is a loose connection or something somewhere.

okay thank you so much for your reply. so i don't neccessary have to mess with the housing unit from the inside to adjust correct? just the screws outside of the units. yeah, that's what thought regarding the flickering maybe some lose connection. but i swear my bf (whose a honda freak) did them right. but i'll double check.
thanks!

Check the terminals inside the headlight connector; they might be loose and thats what happened to mine. So all I did was tighten up the terminal so that it'll have a good connection between the terminal and the prongs.

Yes, the screws are outside of the headlight housing. Just gotta mess with it to see if it goes up or down.

Are you sure the bulbs are fitted correctly...... don't know about the rest of the guys here, but if it's my wifes car and not mine I tend to be a little less fussy with working on it LOL!

if i were ever doing anything for a girl that mattered to me... i would ensure her safety before mine anyday of the week... headlights flickering arent safe.. neither is being less fussy.. im sure you didnt mean how i took it. hopefully.

I can tell you this, flickering can be caused by two things, the above stated loose connections, which is generally why that happens, or, although less frequent, an issue inside the bulb itself. The filament is two parallel lines connected to one another on top, one thicker than the other, sometimes when there is a slight fracture or break in the thicker one of those lines, the bulb still works, however it can, from time to time, begin to flicker. That can happen from hitting something hard, from another car to a pothole of mega proportions, or from shipping or handling damage. Just something to consider although I dont see that being the reason.

Definitely took it the wrong way, if it's a safety equipment item (airbags, steering / suspension components, brakes, etc) that needs repair it gets done by a dealership. IMO Headlamps flickering are hardly a safety issue (a blown headlamp bulb is), they're annoying if nothing else. She stated that the bulb was pointed high in the left headlamp making me think it wasn't inserted properly into it's seat causing it to jump around.... that led to my comment on the boyfriend perhaps being a little less enthusiastic / fussy about working on "Her" car (just in case she thought.... he wouldn't do that to me and not check).

I love my wife dearly..... she bought me my Euro R to transport my baby around in
Say if I was washing my car, I would wash around the door sills, under the hood and trunk lids.... but if it's her car, I would just wash the outside and call it a day

lol...funny boys. it was on his "to do list" but unforunately, i'm on my own, trying to figure things out with this car of mine. the flickering is annoying none the less...and the aim of the left headlight is pointed too upward. I know this isn't serious mechanical errors that need attention asap however, i do enjoy my honda alot she's my baby and want her to be up to par.

Another question....a stereo was installed in my honda and i noticed every so often when i let loose off my gas pedal and the car shifts into coasting mode so to say, my stereo, doesn't matter whether i am listening to the radio, cd or my ipod, shuts off and then turns right back on. lol...why? makes me wonder if there is some electrical problem ya know with the lights flickering and my stereo turning on and off spontaneously.

Does sound a bit like an wiring fault, and please don't take this the wrong way..... but did your boyfriend wire in the stereo also??
Bit sucky that you're on your own with the flickering light problem, unfortunately I'm no automotive electrical guru..... so I hope one of them answers your questions rather promptly.

I am thinking with the lights flickering and my radio also that somehow it was all connected to it being something loose. yes, he did install the radio, but i have all the confidence in him when he does a job. all i can do i think at this point is just mess with the lights and gete them aimed right and try to make sure the connector is pushed in properly...as far as the stereo goes, sounds like someone other than a novice should look at that...i wouldn't know where to begin....

Do the headlights "flicker" at the same time as the Radio is cutting out when you lift on the pedal?
The stereo.. When you say stereo do you mean a whole system? (amp, subs) or just the head-unit?
How was the stock radio? Before the install of the new stereo? Did it seem to do the same thing or it worked consistantly?

No the headlights flicker all the time consistently. No, its just the head unit. When i purchased the car it did have the stock radio in and it wouldn't catch a station, we thought it was maybe a short or break in the antenane so we just took it out and threw in a head unit face plated stereo.

tell your bf to check the battery and engine grounds, put some 2 or 4 gauge wire from battery to chassis and battery to tranny too. My car was suffering a problem like that last year and thats help.

this was my thought as well, when i have time i will be looking at the battery terminals and cleaning them and reattaching them. as far as the headlights go i know they are making a good connection i do believe it is a faulty electrode in the bulbs themselves and this is why i haven't been to eager to chase it down. the flickering isn't very noticeable just when ur behind another car and u have them shining right back at you on the bumper. and as far as the aiming thing i told her when she got the car that the housings weren't designed to have HID's so they were going to be obnoxious but she wanted them anyways.

i'm confident on the stereo install because it's something i've done 100 times over. however i will be pulling it out soon to double check. I usually always solder every connection and this time opted for the time saving move of crimping every connection.

I assure you i have the experience and tools to do these jobs correctly however just haven't had the time to chase down the gremlins since the install. she knows this very well and has been patient with me. i will get to it.
