I'm stumped. 92 Accord front end hum.
I drive a 92 accord 4dr, 4 cylinder, with 203k... It makes a lot of noises, and I'm mostly happy about that--usually means it's working. However, recently, I've been hearing a loud humming from what I'd swear is the driver front wheel. Whatever it is, it's screaming to be fixed. I don't notice any issues with driving the car. I've done the wheel bearing test a couple times now by jacking the car and pulling the wheel toward me from top/bottom, but don't feel any play. Also, it seems to spin pretty good too... maybe a little break pad friction, but no sounds like metal grinding. I've done this test on all four wheels thinking that my ears are off... The humming occurs whether I'm turning or not, in gear or not, and is heard at about 30mph and higher (my ears are a major variable as determining sound levels). It's got to be something constant that occurs when the car's moving--wheel rotation? What am I missing. Could a drive axle be my problem (boots look good)? Any ideas on what I'm overlooking is appreciated. Thanks.
ok first to look for is wheel bearing.. jack the front of the car up so tire up in the air.. let some one put in drive give it little gas around 3k rpm hold it there for while, but make sure everything safe and stable while u under the car. as the tire spin use Stethoscopes to listen for noise by pointing stethoscopes needle near the hub bearing. check for grinding noise something like metal vs metal.. check left and right side.. hope that help
