Default So there might finally be an IFO in California, BUT...

We have been trying for years to host an Import Face-Off in California, but have never had the opportunity until now. HOWEVER, the track we are looking to book is only a 1/8th track, Toyota Speedway and Dragstrip at Irwindale. This IFO will be a show/drag/drift event.

Some questions/concerns that hopefully the locals can help us with...

- Is the SoCal heat bearable in mid June?
- If you are a competitive drag racer, will you support this event even though it is only a 1/8th mile track? There will be the regular IFO classes. Payouts will be in the thousands.

There are already two west coast IFOs (Tucson and Las Vegas), but we are hoping this event will at least get our foot in the door for securing a 1/4 mile track in California for 2011.

Thanks!

Cliff, the difficulty of bringing spectators to the other tracks such as Bakersfield is because its at least 1.5-2hrs away from 95% of the racers and spectators that would go to the event. California Speedway brings in a larger # of people from Socal but you dont get as much from the Central CA like you would in Bakersfield because its 3-4 hrs away from them. But it still brings in a good amount.

Irwindale has a strong following for locals in the grassroots level(not necessarily competition level) because its 20-30 min away for most people(WITHOUT TRAFFIC). Weekdays, it can get to be 1-2hr drive for people within 30-40miles. The only reason most of the competition level cars dont go there is because its only a 1/8 mile and I believe there are noise restrictions so you cant run certain cars. But you'll see an occasional race car testing their short track at the Thurs Nite races.

I'm sure you'll still see a good showing. If anything, promote the non-heads up classes more since I think you can draw in alot of those cars. The Show part is big in this area as well. I know that will draw alot of cars and people. All Motor guys, I'm sure it wont matter much on the 1/8mile but I have a feeling the turbo guys will kinda be more hesitant at the 1/8.

Regardless, I know we'll support it. We'll show up and get out there and race whatever comes our way. Let us know if you need assistance in promoting in this area. We can get in touch with the show "crews" to make that part of the event big.

1/8 Mile, all the ET and MPH is gained in the first half . Even a TF car only gains about 50-60 in the back half . In 1/8 mile racing you have to even a better racer and a have better set up in the 1/8 .

Manny sounds like a plan, and I'm sure the half-race crew will go as well.

The only thing i never liked about irwindale is the braking length. Its another another 1/8th which is fine but at the very end its either a wall or sharp turn. Been a while since ive been so i dont know if they changed that but that used to scare the **** out of me. Fontana is a good track to have the event at.

I was going to mention that but its been years since I ran that track personally and I heard for the faster cars, its kinda scary slowing down when the slow down area narrows. I think I remember it getting to about 1/2 to 3/4 of the width of the track and it shifts the lanes to the left and theres a wall that you have to turn real tight to get out of.

There are no tracks with openings. Fontana is booked and already has BOTI, Bakersfield and Pamona are not available, CMI takes up all Sacramento Import dates.
