Oil pan thread or drain plug thread? you tell me.
I went on a search but didn't come up with an exact result for the question I have. When all else fails, ask.
I just finshed doing a oil pan job on my 98 ex, turns out..after all was said and done i go to put my 14x1.5 drain plug back in the oil pan (Which worked perfectly fine the first time i put it on, and it didn't tighten up.
This is the tricky part which i couldnt find and answer to..
I turned the bolt slowly and it staart to reach it's tightness right before i decided to stop turning it, it slipped and got loose again. So i turn it again and it gets tight and boom again slips and loosen's up..
I go down to kragen then to pep boys and end up with another 14x1.5 thread bolt with a 16mm head (so im not confusing you guys). I tell the guy at pep boys my issue and he swears it's my old bolt and that i should get a new one because the old one may have been warped by the heat..whatever..
So i get home and try it on and the same thing..it tighens then spins. AGAIN.so all the stores are closed at that point and i needa drive to work so i put sealent to hold it over..and it eventually broke through and it's currently leaking small puddles at a time.
Mind you that it worked 3 months ago when i put the last one on. fit snug and tight with a washer.
Anyone know what could be the issue and how to fix it without having to buy another oil pan?

How does the tapping process work? can i do it myself or would i need to take it to a shop. I'm not very familiar with tapping by any means.
BTW thanks for the response.

it's really easy to tap a bigger hole or just try and rethread the old threads. You can do it yourself and it's always nice to have thread kits onhand for future use.
you can do it yourself,
and this gives you an excuse to buy a tap n die set (life savers for the evil stipped bolt syndrome)
just retap the hole and it should be all gravy

Thanks alot, im gonna go ahead and run with this idea. you guys seem experienced. what's the best size to tap the hole? Also, when i tap it im assuming im just making the hole bigger right? or am i correcting the thread pattern in the hole which i can use the same m14 plug with..or am i making the hole bigger so i'd have to use a bigger plug?
Since the hole is stripped you probably cant repair the threads, but instead you would be making the hole bigger and would have to use a bigger plug.
