From: Howcome we park on driveways, and drive on parkways?
as title states im trying to figure out what this is....
it is located on the back side of my block, just about dead center...
is it the breather box? or charcoal canister? idk!
the spot where the bolt is missing on the bottom of the box is where to bolt goes for the plate for the headers....
as you can see in picture, there is a small drip on the bottom....
i but this bolt back in, but havent been back to the car to check it yet...
its not leaking alot, but everything around it like the intermediate shaft, and surface of block has a oily/film on it.....

also i would like to know what this box does? is it filled with oil and it may be cracked? can it be replaced? help me out!
thanks

That is the breather box. There is an O-ring on it that goes into the block. It's possible that the O-ring is bad. What engine is this? On a GSR, the PCV valve is on the top.

it looked like this thing would be a serious biatch to take off......
is that so?

your oil filter may have the old o ring and the new one, where it should only have the new one...this is common so check that too
It was not that bad on my GSR motor. I just removed the tubing on the top and it was bolted to the intake manifold. Looks like it is a bit tricky on an ITR (since the GSR has a different intake manifold).

It looks like it's still pretty flush to the mounting point though. The o-ring is in there pretty good already, even without it being all the way bolted down. I would look around above it, to see if there is another source of leaking oil, before I went charging in on that PCV box though. GL man!
