Default Alternator belt will not stay tight.

Ever since I've changed my alternator since the last one died on me the belt wont stay tight. I replaced the belt with a GatorBack belt to eliminate a stretched/bad belt so that shouldn't be it. I can tighten the bolt pretty tight and when I do it'll stay tight for about a week or two and that's it. Then it'll start squeeking again which get's really damn annoying.

Any insight is much appreciated!!

So the issue is that once the belt is tight, the bolt for the alternator tensionsioner becomes loose after a couple of weeks? Assuming that you are tightening the bolt enough, I would try a bit of non-permanent "lock tite" on the tensioner bolt and see if that solves the problem.

okay first of all i would like to know how you tighten your belt
do you just push on your altenator with your hand and then tighten the bolt
or do you do it like me and grab a huge wrench and place it on the altinator for leverage
and get that belt almost rock hard and then tighten the bolt?

I use a "crow-bar" to push on it to tighten it, BUT I don't pull as hard as Hulk to tighten it. Just a little bit of force and then I tighten it with a 12mm wrench on the closed end.

Did you tighten the bottom bolt as well? The 14mm nut and bolt?

I'm pretty sure I tightened them all. I guess I'll have get under and look tomorrow and find out.

Wait, you're talking about the backet that holds the bottom of the alternator on right?
