So I finally took my gf's neglected and abused car to get 2 new front tires on it since the old one were thread bare and she would just drive it till they fell off the rim.

Well the new tire went flat twice just sitting in the driveway overnight to find out there is a small hairline crack 1"-2" long on the inside of the rim with a slow leak coming from it.

Would it be possible and/or safe to JB Weld the crack to stop the air leak or will that just blow out and create more problems down the road?

 

You could probably get away with it for a little while but your best bet is to take it somewhere to get it welded, I work in a tire shop and we've seen people try pretty much everything to fix a cracked rim but usually it only slows it down....weldings the way to go

 

Yea, the weld shops here want $100-$125 to weld it.

I found a used, reconditioned wheel for $120 shipped to my door so I think I'll just do that.

 

depending on the size of the crack i will charge ~$50 to fix it... most of the wheels i have fixed, that is almost half the wheels value.

do not jb weld it! because it will seep into the crack, and when you realized that jb didnt fix the job, and decide to get it welded, the jb will be a huge pain in the welders ***!

 

Well I'm not gunna weld it.

I'll just buy a new wheel for $129 to my door and maybe get this one welded down the road and use it as a full size spare.
