How long dose a turbo civic last?
Am thinking about going turbo d16y8 with 7lbs, but i daily drive 45 highway miles every day. Do you think it will cost motor problems and have me to tune it alot?
It all depends on tune...build and if your rip on it all day. Many things are a factor in this. A stock motor can only handle so much. A built motor also. I think its mainly in the tune. As always

how long it will last is extremely difficult to say. too many factors to take into considerations, many of which you or i simply cannot calculate for. and being that it's a y8, i would be counting my blessings every time i went into boost. they are notorious for spinning bearings in stock trim, let alone after adding a turbo.

it should last a long time as long as the tune is good and you keep up with regular oil changes. i had my turbo on since aug 2006 at 80k miles and it now has 116k miles. it had no problems doing a cross country drive either. i went from cali to texas, then texas to dc, and dc back to cali. i bought my turbo used and i think i now need a rebuild though since im losing about 1qt of oil every 1k miles and i see oil comming out of the bov. im running a greddy 15g at 10lbs.
Yeah, that turbo is done man.
OP, my buddy had a T3 Super T70 on a stock GSR engine and then switched to a T04 60-1. That car lasted for well over a year, hell I think he got bored with the car and sold it to someone.
How long a car lasts all depends on the tune and the intelligence of the car owner.

As long as you dont take the Y8 over its stock redline and you change the oil frequently you should be fine. I have a built D16, with a Y8 bottom end and It goes to 7500RPM with minor headwork and a mild cam (so I make power through 7250).
I have about 10k on my motor right now and it runs perfectly. I get on it atleast 1 time a day. Its a weighted and balanced Y8 block, which was honed, decked, tanked, and baked. Z6 head with mild cam, Y8 intake manifold, Vitara Pistons, SCAT Forged Rods, Klevite Bearings, stock oil/water pump, MSD Blaster coil, pieced together ebay turbo.
Ive had it for a little over a year now and its fine, I do have to replace the turbo because since the turbo is balanced like ****, it vibrates so much that the bolts on it fall out. So its bolts are all set in with loctite. But it vibrated out the bolts for its housing, causing it to lose the brackets and leak. When I put my new one on, all the housing brackets will be taken off and put back on with loctite before I even install the turbo.
I'm tuned on ~13PSI making about 270WHP. You can run 7PSI on a stock engine (with a tune). If you dont tune it it wont last at all. Make sure to upgrade your injectors to 390 or 450cc, which you can get from ebay. You also need a OBD2 OBD 1 conversion harness with a chipped and tuned P28, unless you want to buy a shitty piggyback system and tune it with that.

a little redneck trick i thought i would share with you guys. when you have your bottom end apart. take the bearings out and clean the mating surface, and that of the rods. take new bearings, and put a drop of red lock tight on it (JUST A LITTLE DROP!) and don't put it near the oil hole. and install the bearing and crank and rods. do this on all the bearings. let it sit for 24 hours, then you can finish assembling the motor... after 48 hours of sitting, you have a motor that will never spin a rod bearing again, even if it runs out of oil lol. you will just score the **** outta the crank.

My EX has been turbo'd for 50k miles, mostly at 7psi.
Just make sure to run a intercooler, or it wont last.
And yes, a proper tune.
To help it last longer, just install a fresh head gasket and ARP head studs, if you don't you most likely will have to do it in the near future.

TIL IT BLOWS UP!! this is a retarded question, who asks something like this? "oh they last for 17 months 6 days 22 hours 6 minutes and 33 s...no wait, 34 seconds." when you buy a car, do you ask the seller how long this car will last? then honestly stand there and wait for them to tell you? if i told you a car would last forever, would you buy it from me for a 1 million dollars, cuz i got about 3 cars that are definitly gonna run forever, but please don't tell anyone else, or they'll all want my infinite running cars and people will be standing outside my house every night like i was god. THUMBS UP
especially with the THOUSAND variables included in every engine, driver, car, situation.....seriously, who can put a number to a question like that. Its seriously like asking a Neon owner how much WHP they make, ask them 5 minutes later and the number has drastically changed.
