so i am most of the way into taking off the head of my 255000 mile a6, head bolts out, em disconnected, everything disconnected from intake mani, but the head wont budge off of the engine, is it just really stuck on there or did i miss something?

 

did you slide the timing belt off the cam...it could also be caked on there with the old headgasket so you might have to use a little force to pry it off when lifting...!!!

 

yep the timing belt was shot its gone....


just tried prying it off, the whole block was moving though...
its really effin stuck

 

did you remove the bracket that connects the intake manifold to the block?

 

exhaust manifold has to come off too

 

both have been disconnected

 

that paper headgasket is probably melted and sealed pretty tight...get yourself a can of spinach and keep trying to yank it off with more strength...!!!

 

got it and now i have a strange urge to go sailing.....
