Everyone keeps saying that the Liberty bellhousings need to be massaged somewhat to fit some applications.
WHat exactly is wrong with the bellhousings? and with what clutches to they not work well with?

when i bought my liberty bellhousing in early 2009, the flywheel rubbed a bit once bolted to the block, you i put a crappy flywheel on it, snugged up some bellhousing bolts, rotated the engine and started grinding a little at a time.
i believe this is fixed now though
this was with a tilton

I just bought a bellhousing a month or so ago, and had to do the same thing, so I doubt its fixed. Need to clearance the inside of the housing for the flywheel, clearance the outside of the housing for the clutch slave cylinder (if using the OEM one), and clearance the area where the hold down tab is for the lower countershaft bearing. Haven't tried it with the PPG lower brace yet..
Chong @ Revline had the same issue's too with the Liberty, I guess everyone will wait to see Miller's when it's releases. Good to see other options, wish someone would make me a K-series one. LOL...
this is true. we also had a problem with the clutch fork hitting and not allowing full movement on the first housing we bought. we added some washers to raise the pivot point, and did a little grinding to solve this problem. we also had problems with a comp twin plates and exedy twin plates hitting the flywheel. as locash noted, the stock slave also hit.
Its also not like they didn't know about the problems, they just chose to not do anything about them, and keep making them.
Avid, just like everyone tells me when they find out I do CNC machining, Make your own!
LOL, they say it like it's ten minutes worth of work or something, haha..

Check Joe's other post: the Liberty bellhousing requires some grinding which is not a big deal... but having to find out on your own, one non fitting piece at a time is a big f***ing deal. I wish I would have had a heads up but I don't know anyone cool with any experience so I had to find out on my own
and Joe, why not just machine your own billet bellhousing, it should only take 10-15 minutes or so haha

has anyone tried the liberty bellhousing with the PPG gearset?
I have a Liberty gearset but I am not confident with the welded case

We have a PPG gearset... had to grind to clear the case brace, clutch release fork, final drive ring gear bolts and flywheel ring gear.

so is no one using these transmissions with the tilton flow control valve or tilton throw out bearings?
I thought this were the must have's a while back? not anymore?

not all clutchs / fly wheels are the same
why would you need lower bace w/ a liberty or nrg bellhousing ??

Yea, I had some problems with the liberty bell housings.
1) The clutch slave wasn't machined at all (I think Lisa's car whom they were mainly selling/using it with had the tilton TOB so that didn't apply for her
2) The Clutch hits on the inner housing. There is a really good picture of where it hits in the miller/billet case thread
3) The pivot for the TOB Fork is not right at all. If you pay attention to it, it the stock clutch release fork sits on the pivot, and it just says flat on the bell housing. I had to grind away so the pivot would work like honda designed it to
4) I think I also had problems with the diff bolts hitting but it was very minimal. You can check that with the diff in and no gears by spinning the diff & checking your diff bearing clearances.

I've been tuning for a lot longer than I've been machining, lol.. Machining was something I was interested in, and bought the equipment to do it.. Now, I have to divide my time between both businesses..
I'm glad this thread is here, now everyone knows that Liberty cases need some work!

It seemed as though nobody wanted to actually say what was wrong with them! hopefully Liberty will look at this thread! yeah right!!!
to the best of my knowledge, from the time the first case came to the cases afterwards, I know that they DID machine extra for the slave cylinder.
