so i bought a used crx..im new to crxs,and for some reason it only stops at 50mph it doesnt go any higher than that need advise?
this is goin to be another project car

 

Not trying to be snide, but you have to be a bit more specific if you want help. What year and model is it? Has it always done this? Does this happen all the time? Are there any weird noises or smells? When was the last tune-up? What's been done to the car?

 

Sorry didnt be more specific just bought this car,and this guy didnt know what was the problem so im asking you guys its a 90crxsi,5 speed no smell,or leaks,tune up was done,but the only thing is that it doesnt go more than 50mph,stops their

 

are there any check engine lights? rough idle? rough driving? any kind of odds behavior with the engine?

 

everything is good it just doesnt top pass 50

 

shift out of 2nd gear it will go faster.

 

yeah is it doing this every gear? (can't pass 50?)

 

Not your gauge needles? or gauge? or you're like actually blowing down the freeway going 90 when your gauge reads dead 50

 

nope just hitting 50 it says thats it..ill try to shift out of 2nd gear and see what happens...do u think its the shifting gear?

 

wait wait, you mean you can rip through first and hit rev limiter, go to second and let it pull damn near to redline when its at 50, then shift to third and it wont go over 50? it has full power in first two gears then wont pull above 50? Not tryin to be a dick of any sort, but is this the first manual car you have driven? Odd though, you can go 2-5th and it will still easily pull above 50 cause heck, at time i cruise at 35-40 in fifth if road isnt uphill/

i can shift ive been driving shift sticks for a long time..the owner said you can shift but you cant go passed 50..thats the problemthats why he sold it to me so cheap

650 sounds like you got a basket case. I got a 90 hatch with a mini me swap dumped on sk2's and gsr fat fives with new tires and si interior for $500. Oh and rust and body damage free.

 

well jsut borrow a pm6 from a hommie and see if that works

 

i had a rex with a similair problem i got from a guy for 300, the body was clean but the wire harness had been hacked up, i agree with alx if the car has no mechanical problems but is limited on speed ecu and wiring would be the first concern

 

long ago, i f'ed up my ecu trying to chip it my self, same prob happened, wouldnt rev past something like 3500 rpm( cant remember exactly, long time ago) but being how it wouldnt rev any higher, my top speed was only about 50-55. It was on a b16 swap i had, but i bought a new ecu that was chipped, rev 9000 all day, lol, and well over 50 mph. So my guess is your ecu is muffed up also, try one that you know is good, see if anything changes.
