Default Noob question: Can you name this part?

Ignore the hand. It is circled in white!

What is it for? And What are the consequences driving without it? Thanks.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that noticed that immediately. This is correct, it is the MAP sensor or "Manifold, Absolute, Pressure" sensor. You might not even be able to drive the car without it. That is what tells the engine how much air it is getting to relate to how much fuel it should use. You VERY MUCH need this sensor.

Just to clarify, you can drive without the MAP sensor. I did with my B16 while trying to diagnose a bad idle.

Its a map sensor, if you un plug it your idle will drop to **** and you should not drive without it plugged in.

Well yeah thieves decided to take that too when they stole my car.

So to install it.. its as easy as screwing it back on and connecting the wire connector??

yea you could but it'd cause a pretty bad vacuum leak and stall the motor in all likely hood if the sensor isn't hooked up and not on the throttle body.

I stand corrected, I had a brain fart and got the two sensers mixed....I apologize for the mix up- we are infact all human and error is part of our nature. If we were all perfect- then keyboard cowboys would have nothing to do...they wouldnt be able to jump on the first opprotunity to point out an error but make the persons that made this error look like a complete F***** idiot. Again, mistakes happen, sorry for misinforming.

TPS is on the backside of TB faces firewall, MAP is either on top of TB or firewall mounted.

take your own advice there jr. the tps is located on the throttle body, about 45* away from the map sensor (whats circled in white) facing the firewall

^^Its a simple mix up...i originally thought MAP, but after reading the other posts about the TPS, i started to second-guess myself. There's no need to be this critical of the other posts...

oh boy.....actually, in a way it is!

The throttle cable hooks up to the throttle rotor which is connected to the throttle plate at which the TPS is on the other end

What I meant was the individuals calling the MAP sensor the TPS should have been aware that the TPS must be connected to the throttle body and subsequently the throttle cable.

I understand for some a minor mistake although if you were to remove the MAP, 2 small bolts, you would notice the functionality of the device. Sometimes people post without thinking or doing research.

Just a point.

The point should be that this sight is informative and if we have people on here answering questions with the wrong answers how are the people without the knowledge supposed to learn if they are being misinformed. And for the fact that if you have spent ANY time under the hood of a Honda/Acura you would not have to 2nd guess yourself whether or not that was a tps or map I'm not trying to be rude or cocky I'm just saying....
