Default 1991 si parts in a 89 hf Compatability

Hi guys,
My neighbor came home with an 89 hf for sale yesterday
I've always liked the no sun roof no rear wiper look. Plus it's lighter
So I really want to buy it and switch all the parts from my 91 si onto it.
I ran into questions that I found no answers to. Can you guys help?

My 91 shocks will work on the 89, but not the 88?

Do I have to change the front hubs and axles to swap a sohc zc into it? I read the axle spline count is different and the axles are weaker.

Can I swap the 91 rear disk brakes into it?
do I have to swap the ebrake cables too?
should I just swap trailing arm assembly with brakes on it?

Is the sohc zc swap a basic bolt in? I read I only have to swap the EGR Valve or something.
do I have to swap the ecu? I read the 91 si ecu will boost power
Are the ecus the same?

Are the clusters a basic swap or dio I have to rewire?
And what issues should I look for in a 89 hf?

Thanks guys

Okay, i do have to swap front hubs.
Will the 91 si fit?

What about the trims, does the dealer still carry 88-89 trims?
I know they do for the 90-91

ok first of use the search function you can get alot of the answers you asked trough that...

most of the stuff with swap over easily.

on the case of the ecu no the 89 hf is a 8valve motor that the 91 si is a 16 valve motor... different motors different ecu's. if you are going to do a zc swap you can use the pm6 ecu if you would like but if you have a i would run a pg7

you can do a rear disc brake conversion heres a good link

you can swap basically any interior other than the seats and the door pannels. the clusters will swap if you have the right dash to go with it.

use the search tab and make it easier on yourself

My 91 shocks will work on the 89, but not the 88? This is correct

Do I have to change the front hubs and axles to swap a sohc zc into it? I read the axle spline count is different and the axles are weaker. No, but you'd might as well because the si hubs are b series friendly, if you ever wanted to go b series, where as the hf hubs aren't.

Can I swap the 91 rear disk brakes into it? Yes you can
do I have to swap the ebrake cables too? Yes. drum cables are different from disc cables
should I just swap trailing arm assembly with brakes on it? You have to swap the trailing arms and prop valve from the si to the hf to properly use the brakes

Is the sohc zc swap a basic bolt in? I read I only have to swap the EGR Valve or something. Literally drop it in. the hf and the si are both mpfi, so you just swap the motors and trannies
do I have to swap the ecu? I read the 91 si ecu will boost power
Are the ecus the same? Yes. the hf ecu has a whopping 5k red line and doesn't make power for ****. plus it's made for fuel economy. don't use it on the hf motor though, you'll just mess it up.

Are the clusters a basic swap or dio I have to rewire? You'd have to either swap the dash and body harnesses to use the 90-91 cluster or re pin the 89's dash harness for a 90-91 cluster cover, hazard switch, defroster and dome switch.
And what issues should I look for in a 89 hf?
Not that i'm aware of, besides the usual ones that occur on 20 year old cars

Thanks guys

this one bit of info is incorrect. you need to have the correct dash harness and chassis harness for the cluster. the dash is identical in shape and design between the two cars. your will also need to swap out the cluster mounting brackets and the cluster cover.
