My Long and Anticipated Dyno Thread!!
Well it is that time! i got my car tuned at church's yesterday and im more than impressed with the numbers i put down. Dan tuned my car and it took him just under an hour. Here are the results.
Mods:
- AEM sri
- Skunk2 Megapower Version 1 header
- Greddy SE
- RRC Intake Manifold
- Hondata FlashPro
Dyno Line Explanation:
- RED - is the untouched MAP calibration listed as Civic-Si-Race-6-AEMSRI-RH
- Purple - After the tune, but the a/f sensor was still in the exhaust, which was a restiction.
- Teal - After the removal of the sensor. what a difference huh?

And some videos courtesy of my Google MyTouch. Not the best quality. I was running a little late and i ended up forgetting my p&s camera with good quality video since i was in such a rush.
VTEC pops at 3 seconds in this one.

actually before ken you could see a pretty much straight line of tq and then bam the dip but now he has like 2 hills becuase tq is there then falls off and then comes back again. lol. You can see that the dip in the tq curve showing his vtec engagement at 3200rpms.
hey max when you look at the graph the big increase in tq is around 4700 rpms which is where you said you really feel vtec kick in. It looks like on the graph that vtec kicks in twice. Maybe they should have tuned the car with vtec at 4500 or maybe 4200 and tried to see if they could get a solid increase in tq till it falls off. Might be why you dont feel/hear vtec kick in.
Greg are you saying vtec is coming in at 3200? I don't think so. Looks like high 4000's to me. And you shouldn't really hear vtec if the cam timing is properly tuned. The sound of vtec is actually from abrupt changes to the cam timing. When you tune for vtec crossover point you are supposed to change the cam timing gradually rather than from say 30 straight to 50 degrees.
my vtec changes over at 3200. look at the teal and purple lines. the red was the base map untouched. here's the video to show what i mean.
so basically my vtec is supposed to kick in at 3200, but it pops at 4700. but if i pop vtec and shift around 5k and floor it in the next gear, vtec stays activated under 4700. it never drove like this when i was down there at sea level, but it all started when i was coming back up the hill.

damn dude thats weird! Maybe thats why hondata says not to set vtec below 3200 inless s/c? Not being a smart *** either bro. But did you ever hear back from churchs?
Ivtec your vtec is kicking in at 4500. I see nothing at 3200. Pm me and I'll send you my email and I could take a look at your calibration If you'd like.
My car was also dynoed at Churches and my Vtec kicks in at 4400 and is very smooth.
No kick in the pants It's actually a good point for this as when your in it, you never really fall out of vtec.

His calibration reads vtec 3200 and 6000. Thats how its shown on the falshpro manager. He called me on his ride home from getting it tuned. You can still "hear" his vtec crossover and you can see it slighly on the graph. It appears on the graph as if the car is engageing vtec twice. Once at 3200 and once at 4500. Thats why the tq curve goes up down up down and back up.
If you think you hear vtec at 3500 on the video you are on crack. On the dyno sheet those first couple dips are not vtec and how could it be engaging vtec twice?. Maybe something is not right with WOT prssure points thats causing it to come on at 4500 even though the lower vtec window might say 3200.
That vid clearly show vtec at 4500. If churches is good there is no way they set the vtec at 3200 on an N/A car....Should be 4000-5000 from what I've seen.

you can ask Max himself. In the video you cna hear the vtec poping. The first one is 2 or 3 seconds and same with the 2nd. At that time the car was at 3200 rpms. I told him that the vtec shouldnt be set that low but churchs did set it that low. I also told him to change the pressures on the vtec engagement but he dosnt want to mess with anything becuase he dosnt want to cause any conflict with churchs and how valid his statement is.
I know that vtec does not engage twice but the graph is showing a double dip when it shouldnt. It should dip once or not at all. and where it does thats when vtec is kicking in. And YES YOU CAN HEAR VTEC KICKING IN IN THE VIDEOS!!!! YOUR ON CRACK IF YOU CANT HEAR IT!

Sometimes you see a lot of little dips and things going on in dyno sheets if you are looking at them without smoothing factors....I dunno, I'd just really like to see the cal.
well i already askd him to send it to me so i could look at it and use it on my car but he wants $100 bucks.
AJP do you really mean to tell me that you cant hear the vtec crossover?
