Default Is there a way to black out the taillights without removing them?

I've been told that VHT nightshade is what I would need to use to black out the tail lights on my 03 accord.

However, I would rather not remove my tail lights unless absolutely necessary. Can the nightshade be used on the outside of the taillights without looking like crap? I know I can remove it if it doesn't look good, but I would rather not do that.

So, is there something else I can use? A cover or something for the lights? If not, just how hard is it to remove the tail lights, take them apart, paint, and put them back on?

Thanks!

Andrew

What you do is take the tail lights out of the car, clean real good and paint them no need to take them apart. Nightshades is used on the outside of the housings. depending on the look also i used a flat clear on my car cause i have a flat color car.

hmmm...okay, how do you take the tail lights out? I tried looking and it didn't seem to obvious but maybe I didn't look hard enough.

I'm leaving the blinkers and backup lights clear, so I just need to tape those off obviously, and get a gloss clear coat for the finish, cause my car is glossy

I dont Know how to take them out on your car but it is usually some interior pieces you gotta take off. just inspect it more. The nightshades is pretty glossy spray it and see if you like how glossy if you dont like it you can use gloss clear i buy from walmart the krylon stuff. i would spray a sample piece also, the nightshade is easy to run also. so thin coats. also do it even so they match and you can get them to the right darkness that you want.

Just remove the carpet and take the rear lights away from the tail lights. There should be some nuts to unscrew. I hear it illegal to black out the tailights.

How much darker do you want it? I would say to take it out and disassemle it. Black out the housing instead IMO.

Are you kidding me, not trying to be harsh but I dont know If you should be painting if you cant figure out how to remove a tailight. All you have too do is pull back the carpet and there is usually 4 little nuts you have to remove, and too get the bulbs out just twist and pull.
