hey everybody, i might be buying a 1994 Prelude Si with about 170,000 miles on it. Its only a little over 2 grand for the car but I dont wat to waste my money buying a car with high miles and just have to put a bunch of money into it just to keep it running. The body is is great shape for how old it is also. Just some advice on why or why not I should buy it. Thanks

PS: I dont plan on building it as a project car, its just something to get me around.

 

170k Honda could be a great car and it could be a piece of junk.....Tough to tell without details.
170k is where a well maintained Honda will show that it was well maintained, buts it also where a poorly maintained Honda will start to show it wasn't well maintained.
Its not so much the engine/trans that starts going, its the little things that may drive you nuts.
I have a 245k mile Prelude:
Broken heater adjustments
Broken sunroof
A/C system is cooked
Starter finally pooped
bushings are shot
body is falling apart
bearings are going

But with the fresher JDM H22A it gets over 25mpg, passes emissions, and makes almost 200whp

These are very good cars....some things to look out for that ive expierienced

-Head gasket tends to slowly go after 150k+(Make sure to use new head bolts when you replace it)
-Oil cooler o-ring goes out frequently...buy 2 at a time!
-watch for sunroof rust ....replaced mine with a glass 5th gen .
-Other than that they are pretty dependable cars if taken care of .....
