Default Need help with replacing my windshield

I discovered some rust holes around my windshield which apparently happened because someone put too much window adhesive around the window which caused water to get trapped instead of drain like it's supposed to.
While cutting out the excess adhesive,I accidentally cracked my windshield in two places.
So now I need to take off my old windshield, patch the holes around the windshield, apply primer with paint, and then install a new windshield.

Do any of you know of a diy on here for replacing windshields or can someone explain the process?
Also is the adhesive going to bond properly to the areas I apply body filler to?

after its painted and dries the adhesive should stick fine. go to a shop that installs windows and they can sell you a tube of adhesive for putting in windshields. apply it on the metal evenly all the way around then put the window in making sure it is centered and the adhesive is all the way around it so that it dont leak. let it cure for whatever the recommeded time is and you should be good. just make sure all the old adhesive is off and the metal is clean and smooth so you will get a good seal.

Window Weld. It's used for more than just filling motor mounts...

Another tip, take your windshield gasket after you've thoroughly cleaned the channel (you did clean it thoroughly, right?) place it on the dash of another vehicle and turn the defrost on high while it sits there. This will make the gasket nice and pliable for you. Don't forget to use a thin bead along the inner channel of the windshield gasket as well.

Tape the corners and center at the top to keep the gasket from shifting. Leave it on for a few hours before you remove it.

Yeah, trying to install it with the gasket hard is asking for disaster and a major headache.

What window gasket?
The manual said something about a window damn...is that what your talking about?
Can I reuse the old one or where can I buy a new window gasket?

The gasket that came off with the windshield...

I don't have a manual, but a gasket, is a gasket. It would be the butyl rubber seal that surrounds the windshield and comes in contact with the windshield channel. Yes, you can re-use it. That is why I said to place it on the dash of a vehicle with the defrost going to make the seal pliable again.

just get full coverage ins if you already don't have... most have free windshield replacement... don't practice on your own car... windsheld install sounds simple, but it's a pain in the ***. that's my adivce.... i like to do stuff myself but if you have never done it, it's hard... just like tinting windows, it looks simple, sounds simple... but if you have never done it, good luck.

Well I may not install it myself but maybe I can remove it myself to reduce the price.

What should be used to cut the old adhesive so the windshield can be removed?
Seems like it would be hard to get a razor blade in there.

If someone else is installing it, have them remove it. You can easily damage the gasket and be up for spending more money. If you want to try it out down the line, watch them as they remove and install it. That's what I did my first time. I've done mostly classics which require more finesse. It's not hard, but you have to know what to do, how to shift it and make sure it's properly seated.

I would just pay a shop to do it. I recently had mine fixed and it was $160 installed with a brand new gasket.
