Nakamichi CD-45z, 40z, or 35z?
Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the Nakamichi CD-45z, CD-40z, CD-35z ? They all look similar if not the same to me. But what about the technical specs? I'm assuming the CD-45z would be the best? Just checking.
Also does anyone know who carries Nakamichi, besides getting it on ebay?
Thank you for your help.
Alex - who now has to decide between green and amber.. hmm if I choose amber, can I make the rest of my dash amber?... hmm

After looking at the homepage it's pretty clear:
35z:
Fixed face
2 channel 2V preouts
1-bit DAC
40z adds:
Detachable face with case
Sub woofer preamp output
4 channel 4v preouts
45z adds:
wireless remote
cd changer control
aux imput
20-bit DAC
All of them feature the following:
Clock
loudness
mute
3 band EQ
internal amp of 43 x 4 max...good luck with that #
and you typical cd/tuner controls
I wouldn't necessarily pick one of these up. They are prone to breaking (cd transport is very flimsy) and are VERY picky about playing CD-R's (the manufacturer doesn't mention CD-R support, but they will play them given high quality CD's burned at very low speeds b/t 1x and 4x. I wouldn't try CD-RWs) Also, the warranty support for Nak is very uncertain...they went through some "restructuring" earlier in the year.
Past those flaws, they are very nice heads, and I would highly recommend the 45z. For the price, jump, you definitely get more features, and the resale value wold be larger. While the rotary volume control is nice, I don't believe it to be an analog pot - too bad as that would be a nice SQ feature.
For the money, I think the Clarion HX-D10 is a better buy for an SQ head. Crutchfield was selling them for around 300 a while back.. they may be out of stock by now.
If you want high end sound with the look of OEM, you can't beat the Nak.

Alex -
It's a standard DIN unit and should fit easily. If you have any reservations, go to the Nak website, check the dimensions, then compare the depth to room available in your car....you can find that at crutchfield.
It's not know as a difficult install by any stretch.
