Default quick alternator question

there's a weird sound coming from the belt side of my d16y8. it gets really bad at about 3500 RPM (my cruising RPM), almost like a grinding noise, then settles down. i'm thinking it may be my alternator bearing.

i doubt it, but is there any risk to taking off the alternator belt, turning on the car, then running it up to 3500 RPM?

just wanna be safe rather than sorry..

thanks in advance!!

no harm itl be fine. just do go drive around with the belt off or the battery will die after like 10 miles
