Clutch Problem??
Hey guys well Having some issue's here with noise. At an idle the car makes noise (Simliar to an engine knock) but when i step onto the clutch noise goes away. Gears and clutch works perfectly fine but unsure of the reason of this noise. When i through it in first gear and accelerate (normal driving) the noise comes back.
A friend said that noise when accelerating could be an exhaust leak???
Well if you can help without a bunch of random bashing that be great.
Thanks

I'd start with inspecting the clutch components. If nothing appears to be broken, I'd suspect something in the transmission went out.
(Input shaft bearing, maybe?? You'll only know by pulling it and looking.)
If it was an exhaust leak the noise wouldn't go away just by pushing the clutch pedal down. You'd hear it all the time.

I don't understand why you guys think it a release bearing? The OP said that when he stepped on the clutch pedal, and disengaged it the sound went away. So when you use the release bearing (disengaging the clutch) it makes no noise, but when it is not in use (clutch engaged) it makes noise? I'm sorry but there is no logic behind your answers. To the OP: it sounds like the ISB (input shaft bearing) which will be spinning in neutral with the clutch engaged, and while driving in forward or reverse gears. Which are the symptoms you described.

And besides I had personally had this problem with my em2 @ 109k mi. I changed the throw out bearing and guess what? The noise was gone. To the op why don't you change both? LOL but the isb is not gonna be as easy as the throw out bearing as far as access goes.
I am planning on changing but waiting for the weekend. Plan on just getting an new clutch while im at it since it will be in need of one sometime. But yeah my friend and I had an idea of it being the valves but nope we adjusted the ones that needed it and same problem. But yeah going to the shop this weekend to get this crap fixed or something.
(Its embarrassing being in a drive through and my car is louder than an old rusty car that needs a paint job.)
