what is the box on it for? Can it be removed?

 

This is a variable geometry turbo. The box encases the servo motor and electronics that runs the vanes. Exhaust housing size is variable from 4 to 25 cm. The box is removable. I have seen people remove it to add a non-electronic method to control the vanes. Or they just fix the vanes to a certain position to get the turbine housing size they want.

 

Seems cheap for the technology and size. y cant I find a regular 57 trim for that much
