hey all. my name is James. I am the owner of a 1997 honda civic SI, and a 2004 Acura TL. Glad to be here!!!

I was contacted by a friend lastnight stating that they were doing a swap from a 1993 civic 1.5L going into a 1996. the reasoning for this is just to get further life out of the car. I am wondering what kind of work this will require? I have done 1 swap before on my civic, and I know this is going to be different. I still have to find out about the engine codes...but was wondering if anyone can provide some insight to this for me? questions I have are:

Engine mounts...are they transferable?
wiring...is it just plug and play?
what other things like throttle cabes, etc would be required for the swap.

I am friends with clayton on here...he is helping me out with just some information...however any additional would help. I have checked out the engine swap thread...however its a tonne of information to filter through.

use all mounts from the 96 + intake,injectors,dizzy,exhaust, and depending on what motors u should be able to use stock ecm (unless your doing nonvtec to vtec or vise versa) just try and use everything you can from the 96 .

 

thanks for the help!!! another thing I was told by a licenced honda mechanic is that the 93 would be OBD1 and the 96 would be OBD2...which means a jumper cable would be required...I am waiting on the engine codes from the guy to clarify...as well, the car could need a new O2 sensor for the primary...but once again I really have to find out the engine codes...I remember when I did my swap it was a nightmare finding and getting the right parts...then again I did the D16y8 to b16a2 swap...so there were a lot of parts needed!

 

If you basically use everything from the 96 like Canadaek said you shouldn't need a jumper. If you are swapping from non-VTEC to VTEC it might be a different story. They are a different OBD (the 93 is OBD1 and the 96 is OBD2A) but if you use all of one set or the other of wiring, injectors, distributor, ECU etc.. with the desired motor (assuming they are both D-series non-VTEC) it should run fine. I'm not a mechanic but that's my lamen understanding of it, lol.

 

And before anyone says it, Canada did have an Si model from '96-'98. It is the equivilant to a US EX.

i forgot about the crank flux sensor on the 96 but there is a wire trick to fool the ecm so no cel i think you use the crank sensor signal search on hear it should be easy to find
