Default Long story for a quick question...

There seems to be a run lately of H-T members wrecking their cars.... Add me to the list, I got rearended Saturday by one of my co-workers.

I was pretty amazed when I got out of the car and walked to the back that there was only a scuff on my bumper (that I later buffed out.) every thing else outside looks great (amazing little cars these EFs) the BMW that hit me had one of his bumper struts pushed in. I guess it just felt worse than it accually was.

The problem is on the inside; I don't know if it was the way I was holding the steering wheel or the way the wheel was turned when the other guy hit me, but something broke in the column. Now my turn signals don't automatically turn off when I straighten the wheel back out. I pulled the steering column cover off and there's some chunks of plasic laying in there, but I need to figure out which peice I need to replace so my co-worker can pay for it.

So, my question: How the heck do I remove the steering wheel from a '91 Std HB?
I'm assuming you need to get the horn button off, But does it pop straight off, or is there a trick? All of the cars I've worked on before have had screws on the back side to remove the button, but this one doesn't.

Pretty simple....Pull off the cover and there is a 17 or 19mm nut holding the wheel to the column shaft. Remove the nut and 1) use a bolt grip puller (the right way) 2) Screw the nut back on a couple threads and use a pulling motion to remove the steering wheel. If you get lucky it should come off easy.

But how do you pull off the cover? does it just pop off? I don't want to yank too hard and break something else.
