Default ITR Key

Saw these on ICB Motorsports for a decent price (a third of what they are from my local honda dealer anyway), as im on the other side of the world and never heard of ICB just wondering if they are all good to deal with? Or recommend anywhere better? Need to ship to New Zealand though.

Thanks

A name you can trust.

They are not immobilizer keys.

Correct. That key came with the early ITRs (I assume '97-98) and does not contain the chip needed for the immobilizer system on the later ITRs (I assume '00-01).

You can ghetto rig it by gluing an immobilizer chip to it, then program it.

I should pick up a couple as my original key doesn't look as nice.

I too have dealt with ICB and have not been disappointed. They usually have pretty good ship times as well.

I thought that was the original key that came with the '97-98 when it was purchased new, including USIM models.

the '97 and '98 ITR's came with the "Type-R" style key, it was a one of a kind style that didn't contain an immobilizer chip in the head...
the '00 and '01 ITR's came with a different style key with an immobilizer chip inside, as did all other integras from '00 and '01 in order to communicate with the immobilzer system which became standard equipment in '00...
this information is for USDM models, not sure of the differences in JDM models...
it is possible to use a '97 - '98 "Type-R" style key in a later model year car, IF you can bypass the immobilizer system...
this is what i'm doing with my k-swap, as Hondata's K-Pro is required for such a thing, and disabling the immobilizer is an option in the K-Manager software...
any other ways, i'm not sure of...

(edit) - btw, ICB is awesome. good company and they have a lot of cool ****, when it's in stock. ;]

What happens if you have a JDM ITR motor and not USDM? Will the immobilizer still work or need to be bypassed? I had no idea 00-01 Integras had these I just learned something new

jdm motor will be fine. its the combination of the key, ecu and the immobilizer thingy elsewhere. Nothing to so with the engine.

Same with mine, dented and scuffed.

Do the USDM 00-01 ITR keys look the same as the 97-98? Just with the immobilizer chip inside them?

No, they look like any other Acura key at the time.

Wow, that's too bad. The non-immobilizer ITR keys look great and don't feel like any other key I have on my key ring. No mistaking when I reach for the key to start the car.

My '00 GS-R is the same key as above, just with a red "A"

So how effective are the 00-01 immobilzer systems short of towing the car? I remember when my car 95 integra got stolen I went to the impound lot and I saw part of my ignition hanging out and a flathead on the floor. Sure enough I just put the screwdriver in, twisted it, and she started right up.

It is effective unless the thieves bring spare parts.
